We have cancelled all summer holiday travels.

I wish I had a crystal ball, but I think I'd err on the side of caution and postpone. DD just texted me saying she hopes our family can kick off summer on Memorial Day weekend at our house on Cape Cod. I think that is doubtful, but I am cautiously optimistic about Independence Day. The thing is when the country is "reopened" it will be in segments, depending on where the hot spots are, and most likely air travel will be a challenge for many.

It is a tough time for sure.

The rental is through VRBO and I'm not sure a refund is possible, credit yes. At this point their website only has info about cancelling through April. I am not the one handling the reservation.

The big problem is getting another time that we all can be together. It may have to be pushed back to next year. (And hope the older 2 are still able to go)

I don't think June vacation plans are going to work out. I have a trip planned for mid-September and I'm even skeptical about that. Also a wedding at the beginning of June and I'm waiting to hear what the alternative plans are for that.

We have concert tickets for June and I am doubtful any of these shows will happen. We are not even allowed to go on our campus in SC until July.

I have cancelled my plans for all travel including a family visit and a pleasure trip. I will reevaluate in the fall when I think it may be safe to travel again. The virus will not be eliminated by this current lock down it will only spread out the infection rate so that medical support care can be provided. In addition, the hope that a pharmaceutical solution can be found quickly.

Yes HIlton Head Island. I'm holding out hope we can go this year but know in the back of my mind that we probably won't be able to go. Covid 19 is just starting to hit us. I'm obviously still working, the teachers and others are doing their thing from home.

Yes, I would cancel. We canceled a trip to Canada in June. Not sure we could even get in The country by then. It looks like the virus is working it’s way south, so June could be bad in HHI.

we canceled our August trip. Our lodgings were through vrbo and we got a refund. Not sure if that is up to the property owner or vrbo policy.

We are keeping out reservations for Laguna Beach/Newport Beach for end of July. We can drive if we have too. If not, we can get a credit-we go there every year, so can use it later if need be.

I cancelled a VRBO once for a bit of an emergency and got a 100% refund. I pleaded my case with the owner, they approved it and then VRBO followed through. I cancelled right after I made the reservation but that’s not applicable in the current situation. It seems though that exceptions to the stated cancellation policy can be made if you make a case for it.

I would cancel and firmly request a full refund. VRBO or the rental company will offer you a reschedule; tell them that is not acceptable as the timing does not fit your schedules. To me, the most important thing would be getting my money back.

FYI, my family just went through the same thing. We had a family trip planned for THIS WEEK (spring break and they offered us the same house at the same price in July. We declined, and they honored this. I just got my Visa Credit a few days ago.

Just cancelled our Air BnB for DDs graduation. Her school has not officially called it off, but its for end May so ....

I am getting ready to cancel our London and Paris trip for June. Still hoping we can go on scheduled driving trips in July and August, but don't know yet.

All JUne and most summer WEDDINGs have been cancelled that we were invited to...thinking vacations are pretty much a non factor.

I can see postponing a June wedding since they are such large, close quartered events...but a family trip by car to a single family residence at the beach is a very different animal.

I have no crystal ball, but I imagine by June the harshest SAH measures will be at least partially adjusted. Americans are already getting antsy, two more months of this, after already doing one month, I just can’t see it. China, a repressive state, had just over 2 months of lockdown. I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong, but as the weather gets nicer and nicer, and families get more and more broke, there will be considerable political pressure to slowly open up economic sectors by June. Just my thoughts as a poly sci junkie!

My thinking is along the lines of Nini's. We would all be driving from different locations and staying in one house. My DD's have said that we can socially distance at the pool.

Mentally I am concerned for a lot of people if we are still under the SAH measures in 2 months. I am still working so not as sequestered as many, but still getting cabin fever.

My BIL made the reservations for the house and i know he was wanting to reschedule but not sure where that came from.

DH is even debating his one-day trip to NYC in June. He will probably cancel, but is waiting for the airline to cancel it for him so he is guaranteed a refund. He already knows his May trip won’t happen.

My DH has booked about half a dozen track events to drive his Porsche - through September. Don't think his dreams are gonna happen. I don't usually accompany him but was looking forward to going to Mont Tremblant over the 4th of July weekend - a jazz festival. Who knows when the Canadian/US border will reopen??

We were going to go to San Francisco this summer, but that is on hold now. If things change, we can still drive there, and I don't think it will be that difficult to get hotel rooms.

I am schedule for NYC for August for a concert that's probably not going to happen now. American Airlines says change fees are now waived until September 30. We were looking forward to a fun weekend in NYC, but I'm doubtful any of this will happen.

We had theater tickets for Broadway shows in April, May and June that have been canceled. We're waiting to hear about the musical scheduled for mid September but I doubt it will happen and even if it does I'm not too sure at this point that I want to sit in a theater.

Jan 2021 sounds better to me. I have tickets for May 2021 and I'm not even going to think about that - it's over a year from now.

We were approached by a neighbor/re agent a few years ago about renting out our Maine house when we travel. We are usually there most of the summer, but we have now done a few 2 week rentals with her over the years. She handles everything and it has been seamless.

This year all 3 of my kids have/had some plans in July, so we offered up 2 weeks in July that we would be willing to rent. We signed a lease at the end Feb and pretty much forgot about it. The agent forwarded me the lease this am .... the renters just signed the lease a week ago... so I guess they are planning on coming.

I wonder where we will be?

I like a wait and see approach. I would keep your plans for now and cancel closer to the date if things still look bad. Refunds happen closer to the actual date it seems with this pandemic.
