Unusual idea? - matching curtains on window with 'fake curtains' to cover opening - prevent walkers through there - so that the sofa could be moved back to be less crowded.

From your front door into the room, past the staircase, it doesn't look like you have much room. Is that working for you?

Unsure which measurements you’re looking for but let me try.

Entry console is about 16in away from wall with mirror. And about 27in away from staircase. We use it for our keys and house alarm (and lots of other junk as you can see) so we would need to replace it with something similar. I like the idea of something going between kitchen and DR (I assume this is what you meant). But the distance from that wall to back edge of white couch currently is only 31in so we probably can’t afford to put something there with the current setup. We do always keep those doors open though!!

I don’t really understand your 2nd comment about the curtains for walkers? Which sofa?

This is an interesting idea, we’ve always assume the tv has to go on top of the fireplace! What would you like to see go on the mantle instead? And what are the black squiggles in front of window? Drapery? I assume the black line with circle over couch is a lamp? Love that!!

There isn’t a ton of space here (27in from edge of console to edge of bottom step) but it does seem to be working for us. I imagine if we had kids and strollers and kid items it wouldn’t but it’s just me my husband and our dog. Which you can probably see evidence of throughout the photos!

Crowded entry yes I thought it could go to right of kitchen door - probably useful to have taller one to use wall space [very little depth] -- partly closed cabinets to hide stuff !? ... remove the doors by kitchen, and it'd look 'neater' if unit was right next to it.

Curtains I meant in the opening between light blue chair and the sofa - matching fabric on the windows I suppose.... then move the sofa against the curtains, cause curtains have formed a 'wall'.... maybe a table behind that sofa, with a lamp?

There are art screen options instead of curtains.

So if no one walked from one room to the farther one -- maybe a small measurement between new unit and the sofa would work.... [wish I could post drawings]. I suppose people can enter the farther, second room, another way ..

Ok that was a quick no, lol. Our only other opening into the DR is a small door through the kitchen. We like that it’s a semi open(ish) concept here. Minus the one wall and all 😂

lol also... I wonder if, just like tight entry you said -- if a tight walk-through space [behind sofa] could allow a beneficial stretch out for furniture...idk how often you invite for meals, but someone possibly could move the screen/ sofa aside a bit... oh well... :)
