Garage, front door & trim color

We’re in the process of replacing our front landing/steps with Trex decking (likely in browns, considering Spiced rum or Fire pit as the primary color with vintage lantern as an accent). While we’re at it, we’re looking to possibly change the color of our garage door, front door and trim (trim is currently dark brown).

I hate the exterior of our house, but budget doesn’t allow for much more than paint right now. I whited out the current color so as not to bias anyone. Thoughts on colors? Our neighborhood is primarily recently renovated colonial and raised ranches with manufactured stone and vinyl. Our house is definitely the ugly duckling.

If you're going to paint the trim white, I think you need to beef the size of the trim up as you see below.

However, you have a contemporary ranch with garage below and the white trim will considerably change the style of your home.

Thank you! I’m not necessarily saying we’re looking at white.... I just whited out the color of the garage door, front door, and window trim to eliminate any bias as I seek suggestions for other color suggestions for the doors.

This is a recommended color from SW for Mindful Gray…homburg gray. I would do this on the shutters and the garage doors and leave the wood door as is. The two middle windows shouldn’t have shutters as the won’t fit appropriately, but you are not painting the siding and the darker outlines of the shutters will show if you don’t replace what was there. Personally, would like the house with out shutters and would probably paint the siding and garage doors and have no shutters at all.

Snap a photo on a sunny day then use the Sherwin Williams ColorSnap app to play with the colors. I would select a tone slightly darker than your mortar for the garage door and a color slightly darker than your darkest brick for the front door. I would then on the garage door install magnetic faux hinges and windows; this will add detail to the door, like the below house. I know they can be found on Amazon, not sure where else. I really think that addressing the landscaping should be your first issue. I would get a professional landscaping/hardscaping plan and implement it as the budget allows. Maybe you have already done that prior to deck changes?

I have never been a fan of “ decks” in the front of a house, but it might fit your house’s style. We cannot see what is there. Could you remove those bushes and expose the deck area? Once the landscaping is completed you might better be able to decide other changes that are needed .

The changes at the front entry might be enough to freshen your house.

The stairs are literally rotting and need to be replaced yesterday, so that’s our first priority. :) Again, all I’m looking for are color ideas for the garage and entry doors.

The right grey can be a good mix with brown.

This is not the same color as your brown, but you can see how grey works with brown.

are you repainting the entire house or just wanting to change the trim? I'm seeing something more modern, like matching the trim to the siding color or choosing something similar in color. it doesn't appear to be the style of trim that you want to enhance, it appears to be minimal/utilitarian so should really be blended away as much as possible. Choose your fun bright for the entry door, and maybe the garage door. what about turquoise? :-) The real focus should be landscaping.

TBH the white cover up you applied too the photo is distracting and obscures the details of your home. i think it's more difficult to recommend colors as a result.

As I said in my original post and another response - I’m not looking to do any landscaping right now or replace the trim. I’m looking for color suggestions for my garage and front doors.

Paint the garage the same color as the siding so it pulls less focus. You want your door/entry area to have more focus. Maybe a blue door...? Ignore everything here except the siding and door colors.

When the corner trim is high contrast it tends to box the house in visually. Keep it subtle.
