Perhaps all this points out is there is a reason ACTORS get paid big bucks for commercials and infomercials. You Tube is an amateur show!!! It is designed to give non professionals a platform. YOU CHOSE it if you are bothering to watch these people!!! Speaking "off the cuff";as most You Tubers are, will almost always get one using a lot of pauses and ums as well as off topic straying. I was taught in speech 101 in high school and college words are money. When broadcast or in-front of an audience short, simple, clear is required if you want to come across educated, intelligent and competent. Again not so sure that is the goal of most You Tubers. As far as the use of language and new words emerging..well that has always been the unique thing about English. It isn't a dead language. It is still growing and evolving. Even Websters began updating and each year there are more and more words included. Blatant grammar mistakes do grate on my ears like the old school finger nails on a chalk board example but for me the bottom line is COMMUNICATION. Did the point of the speaker get across and was it understood. Innovation with word usage bothers me not. And I think it is a battle lost YEARS AGO.

I like to watch Vito Lacopelli's pizza videos. I like his recipes and his techniques, and I've learned a lot from him. While I can grow the same plants that are grown in Australia, I have a difficult time listening to a strong Australian accent (mild ones are okay), and so I put subtitles on for people like Self Sufficient Me and turn the sound off or way down. I love Italian accents OTOH. What is worse, however, is the computer generated voices or people who have sing-song inflection - I turn that off as well, including voice-rise inflection and vocal fry (like the Kardashians). This keeps me from going down too many Youtube rabbit holes! I find many Youtubers to be overly annoying, and so that limits how much I watch.

I have never really got along with screens - I don't watch TV. I have relied on books when I want information or entertainment. Back when I was a new gardener, I subscribed to a couple of magazines but quickly concluded that there was always an agenda (usually to sell stuff) and I was even more irritated by the glossy perfection of featured gardens (which I certainly didn't recognise)...but mostly, the tedious predictability of continually catering to garden novices. I do find the internet has value but in general, there is an emphasis on branding, personalities, aspirational BS. I find myself looking at short videos such as 'how to light a Tilley lamp', 'how to do German short rows', 'how to sharpen a chainsaw' but have had very little compulsion to watch TV gardening. Whilst Mr.primula was waiting for a sports channel, one of those garden makeover programmes was playing in the background.. ('Love your garden', I think) .I was dismayed and offended by the whole concept - spend hundreds (thousands) of £££ to make a garden in 24 hours. Rubbish. Not gardening, just shopping. Presided over by grinning nitwits. There is nothing of interest to me. And, afaics, this is amplified on YouTube and subscription social media. So, apart from other gardeners, books (especially plant monographs) are still my main source of information... but again, you have to be prepared to trawl through a lot of utter rubbish but these are usually clearly signalled: written (ahem) by celebrities, heavy on illustration, light on text,

I finally watched part of the video. TBH I am not much for youtube/videos. The house is lovely but a bit more "stuff" than I would like. I found her voice pleasant but I do agree the cup was a bit distracting. Not wearing shoes didn't bother me a bit, as I never have shoes on in the house. It just made her comfortable to me. Yes, cozy and casual, which is what I like. Two things stood out for me - I have a wicker chair in the basement that came from my dad's family. It probably needs to be painted (which is fine as the dark green really doesn't go in our home), but honestly, I can't think of anywhere I can use it! I need to find a place. I have very little from my dad's family. The other item is the mantel clock, which I also have, and is also from my dad's family! I can't find it!!! I had it in a closet and several months ago noticed it wasn't there. I've obviously stored it somewhere. I have a cedar chest and a leather trunk that I need to see if it might be there. I should be using it.
