What Is Everyone Doing This Black Friday?
Comments (27)Made a big lunch of what leftovers were worth eating, had a piece of pie and a cup of coffee, sat in the chair in the library and rested/snoozed on and off for an hour. Just now filled the bird feeders and got the mail out of the box. It's sunny but with a cool breeze here. I received a catalog from The Swiss Colony. I haven't seen a catalog of theirs in years but can remember browsing through all the pages of food gift boxes of meats, cheeses, and desserts. Might be worth checking out for Christmas gifts this year if they packages would arrive in time....See MoreHope everyone had a great Holiday...
Comments (10)Aurora - First congrats to you on picking a perfect guy to marry! I used to grow under lights, (and still have a set up for the coldest months down here) a piece of advice - make sure you set up a reflector, otherwise the majority of the light is wasted. I use LEDs made specifically for growing plants - but white light, not the red and blue (was too 1970s for me :) ) LEDs really are a bit different, but my plants do just fine under them. The one thing that is the most noticeable, is the light when you are looking down at it, doesn't seem as bright as fluorescents - don't worry it is giving the plants enough energy. It has to do with how human eyes "see" light. As for myself - although not a Christmas present, I finally was able to get some time with my hubby, and was able to talk him into something I've wanted (dreamed of, planned for etc lol) for a while now. We are going to have pavers put in in a large section of the backyard - and then I'm getting a nice sized pergola. So I spent most of yesterday googling pergola images, and I've decided what design I want. Will call the contractor on Monday, and I'm hoping to have it all done by March. And then during the hottest months, I'll run shadecloth over it, and it will be my new grow area. It should also be big enough for a hammock, and a small table and chairs. BTW - I was on Epiphyitca's site this morning, planning my new order, with all the new space I'm going to have. Happy New Year! Renee...See MoreEveryone healthy?
Comments (43)We are supposed to be notified through our hospital/healthcare system when it is our turn to be vaccinated. Since DH has not had a primary care appointment in a few years, this has at least motivated him to make an appointment to get himself in the queue. So, he is going this week for an office visit and bloodwork. Our state where we live seems to be doing a decent job overall. Just saw a story how the health department plans to administer vaccines at one of the sports complexes. We are just concerned that we can get DH vaccinated as soon as we can. I work remotely but he is exposed and could bring it home to me. MIL only comes here and grocery shops 1-2 times per month. She is 73 (yes, my MIL is basically the same age range as my siblings), and the county is starting vaccinations for 75 and older probably within the week, but she would also be notified through our hospital system. MIL is also helping manage care for her sister in a LTC facility in another state. Like yeonassky, her sister has mental challenges so it is frustrating and stressful for both of them. She’s even considered moving her to a LTC facility here, but not sure that can really happen....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/3/2023
Comments (15)I have been busy unraveling some medical mysteries…so annoying and somewhat stressful. Today I finally saw an ENT for a sore throat I have had for 3+ months. Something about a sore throat, for me, says ”you’re sick” or ”you’re getting sick” so it has really kind of messed with my head and my energy level. Anyway, I was diagnosed with larygopharangeal (sp?) reflux, or ”silent reflux” and start taking meds tonight. I will be so happy if it works! I have no heartburn or any other stomach symptoms, just the sore throat. Meanwhile (I feel so old) I have had a foot issue that the podiatrist thought was bursitis, tried 2 cortisone shots with no result, now doing PT and he thinks it’s actually a trapped nerve. It is just another minor annoyance and doesn’t affect my activity except that it’s hard to get motivated to exercise when you wake up every morning with a sore foot. We will be away again this weekend visiting DS but DH and I have both agreed that next week we need to re-start our healthy eating routine and maybe even start ”dry January” a couple weeks early (making exceptions for a few holiday gatherings). We keep trying to establish a routine of walking 1/2 hr after dinner every night but it is reallly hard to start that up when it’s cold and dark! We should have started in the summer so it would truly be a routine by now....See MoreOutsidePlaying
