Labeled Karin, is this right?
Comments (12)This is what Hugo has to say on the matter: AFAIK 'Karin' has been applied to 2 hostas. Heemskerk registered it for a sport of 'Anne', smaller white edge, more cupped. 'Anne' is the same as 'Twilight', both registered as a sport of 'Fortunei Aureomarginata'. This is the one shown in the picture on GardenWeb and on the Hosta Library. The other 'Karin' was mentioned for Russ Parsons 'Sun Power' sport. Strangely, my notes indicate that this info comes from the Hosta Library around 2002. This is probably the same hosta as 'Abba Dabba Darling' (same description). Looks like the wrong 'Karin' could be dumped. Both are in my database, but the link in the Hosta Library points to the wrong 'Karin'. In the future I'll drop the wrong 'Karin'. Comments (9)Thanks everyone! I think I like it a lot? It's different and "unique" it adds its own something special to my hosta garden for sure! I wasn't sure I would like it so I debated on it for a few minutes but $5 was too good a deal to pass up just because of some barely noticeable frost damage! I relocated it into Luna Moth's old pot. It's bigger. I ordered Cherry Berry today, so I'll need the smaller one I had it in for her. The pot it's in now should (hopefully) last a couple of years? I put it in front because it says it's more sun tolerant. If that's wrong, I can always move it later but for now, it's good....See MoreNew house...new garden, hosta transplanting?
Comments (4)IF IT WERE ME .... find the best/closest soil selling place ... go there... find some nice soil ... i might have to visit a couple places ... then i would order enough to make a small bed .... couple yards ???? flatten it enough so you can water it... and put all 75 into this one bed .... maybe on a 1 foot by one foot grid .... and start watering... make a map ... and walk away .... BECAUSE YOU NEED TO WORK ON THE HOUSE .... ... i would try to have everything planted within 30 days.. so they can grab hold.. and not heave during the winter ... you will have most of october and november.. to figure out what to do with heavy clay .. and maybe start a few beds.... for moving the plants in the spring ..... BUT THE PLANTS SHOULD BE IN THERE WINTER LOCATION BY 9/15 AT THE LATEST IN ZONE 5 .... but just in case it all gets too over whelming.. they will already be in the pile of good soil ....... i dont know if the typed word is expressing what i am trying to say .... all i know.. when i moved... plants really interfered.. with finding out where all the pots and pans and sheets.. and everything else you need is packed ... try to make the plant part as easy and fast as possible... good luck and congrats on the new house ... ken...See MoreAha! I think there will be room for 3 new hostas in new strip
Comments (7)Unfortunately, the rain seems to be bypassing us except for a spitting rain right now. And I NEEDED that rain to soften the soil for the addition of the hosta strip to the garden! So, I may have to run the hose on the "soaker" setting for a while Sunday to soften the soil. Then I can plant the hostas I saved in the garbage bags and wait for the 3 new ones to arrive to plant. The OUTRAGEOUS thing is, now the mgt. is toying with me again. They told me in that letter to have my "plantings" out from under the hosta tree, and so I did. I only left the annual salvia, as it will die soon anyway. Guess what???? The dead tree is still there, but I know the "landscapers" have been busy cutting down zillions of trees and large branches all over the complex. So I wonder, with good reason considering their spitefulness, if they wanted me to dig up my garden for no reason except to ruin it AND they won't remove the dead tree as I asked. I just ran into my downstairs next door neighbor, who has told me often how much she loves what I did with the Neighbor's Patch (she is one of the 2 "Neighbors"). She paid me a wonderful compliment just now---she is getting married next year and she wanted the name and color of my Easy Does It rose because she wants to use it in her bridal bouquet!!! I just informed her about the co-op manager's nasty spiteful behavior about the hosta garden, and she was truly appalled....See Moreundertheoaksgardener7b
