Difference b/w BM Carrington Beige and Manchester Tan?
Comments (23)Is there something above that would tell me if it leans gray. You are correct. Chroma tells you how close to a neutral white, gray or black (the grayscale) a color is. It's called the whiteness, grayness or blackness characteristic of a color. MT's Chroma is 1.48 and Jute is 1.42. So Jute is just a snidge more grayed than MT. Or you could reverse it and say MT is just a snidge more colorful than Jute. Sometimes when people perceive a characteristic of grayness they'll call it a "gray undertone". When they perceive a characteristic of whiteness, they'll sometimes call it "chalky". Whiteness, grayness, blackness is not only technically correct, I think it's a lot more specific and simpler. As far as warm and cool, every color in context of its color system can be categorized as inherently warm or cool. In the example above, once you get to the 5Y mark in the yellow hue family, the colors start to shift to the cool side. Every color in a color system has a warm side and a cool side. With color temperature, odds are the inherent color temperature of a color will hold true. But context matters, the light matters. In situ with other contents of a room, a color that's warm in context of its color system could take on a cool role - or vice versa a color that's inherently cool could take on a warm role. Here's the Colorography for Manchester Tan. Puts the color in context of its hue family and illustrates chroma; maybe makes the whiteness, grayness, blackness scale I'm talking about easier to see/understand....See MoreSearching for a nice *clean* beige paint for my hallway...
Comments (28)Context is everything with regard to color. How a color reads in the context of a fandeck or a paint chips (big or small) isn't necessarily going to hold true in the context of a three-dimensional room. And vice versa. Each analysis or "read on the color" can be correct. Depends on the kind of discussion you want to have about color and what your end goal happens to be. With that said, it's important to evaluate any color in which you have an interest in various contexts (in the room in general, near the sofa, butted up against the trim, etc.) and lighting exposures (on a window wall, in a corner, up by the ceiling, down low by the floor). It's through this process that undertones will reveal themselves. There are two kinds of undertones - in situ and inherent. Alleged undertones you are able to detect on a paint chip can literally disappear into thin air once in a room. Color experts consider a few key things when choosing wall colors. Context is right up there with primary light exposure, function, expectations and tolerances. Making assumptions about paint color based on just a chip can sometimes narrow the field of color choices down to slim and none. And just because XYZ beige turned out pinky beige in one house does not mean it will look the least bit pink in your house. Collecting input and comparable results with paint colors is not a bad thing -- can be good to get other people's read and opinions on certain colors. Editing that info is just as important as collecting it....See Morelooking for a Beige color paint recommendation
Comments (34)First paint chips I'd reach for are on the Sherwin-Williams strip with Kilim Beige SW 6106. Sherwin Williams sometimes labels it as an "orange paint color". It's not "orange". Kilim Beige Colorography It will definitely look less lemon-y, polenta-y. I also like the idea of Benjamin Moore's Shaker Beige or Manchester Tan. Should be a nice range of near neutrals to get you started figuring out what "beige" means to you. Because "beige" means something different to everyone as you can see on this post. Color words like beige, greige, taupe, etc. are really meaningless because everyone defines them differently. Same with "undertones". No one can agree on color undertones (again as demonstrated in this thread) because it's a subjective judgment....See MoreEMERGENCY HELP! I WANT TO CRY!! SW ACCESSIBLE BEIGE IS TOOOO GRAY!
Comments (53)Help! We are re-doing our kitchen and I need to choose a cabinet color for my maple cabinets. Our home is the Tuscan style from the early 2000’s, so I do want to go with a warmer color. My walls are SW divine white. I like a bit of a darker beige or cream than Divine white to offset the lighter LRV of 72. Has anyone tried SW Natural Linen, BM Natural linen, BM Clay Beige, BM White Sand for cabinets? Also was thinking of Accessible Beige, but afraid it will be too gray. My kitchen is north facing, with minimal light. Our floors are noche travertine. We are going with a lighter granite or quartz and maybe Cle’ tiles for backsplash....See Moresalonva
