Unexpected pinkinsh tint in countertop so what backsplash color??
Comments (103)We tried barely beige in our living room and I didn't like it because of the pinky undertones. Change the bulbs change the paint and then see how you like it. I've got friends who waited a year or more before deciding on a splash. Do everything else - you don't need to finish the splash now to finish your project. You don't need more than a quart of paint - take your samples (counter, cabs and floor) down to the paint store, get them to recommend a couple of colours (tell them about the look you are going for - light and airy right?) take the quarts home and sample away....See MoreBacksplash help for Calacatta Gold quartzite counters...it's time!
Comments (98)Hey, barncatz: Every word of consolation and support helps. I'm trying not to rush the BS decision, but I know I'll feel much better about the countertop experience once I'm not staring at these sliver add-ons. One of my very early inspirations was Majra's kitchen. She, just like pipdog, used the mosaics for a lovely effect. And this is why I spent so much time last year looking at mosaics. But the mosaics seem a bit too busy (for me) up close. The rest of my kitchen is a work in progress. Lotsa 9-1/2' walls that will need to be painted again (probably a cool white -- the next challenge!), and a ton of natural light coming in. Baseboards, pantry door and trim are all semi-gloss white, and ceiling is white. Kitchen is open to the family room: taupe walls with a white fireplace/mantel -- white trim throughout the entire house. pippiep: Matching grout it is, then! One decision down. :) I've marked out the areas that will require BS tile. As you can see, it's not very expansive, and each one not very large. So, I need to find the correct scale/dimension tile that will look right in these spaces. I think using larger (3x6) tiles in a herringbone pattern will leave me with a bunch of chopped up squares in the bartop and cutout window areas. At least with the newest elongated hex pattern, most of the hexes will be retained....See MoreCountertop and backsplash help for white kitchen!
Comments (22)Beth H, thank you again for your thoughtful suggestions! Unfortunately, as I am in Canada, I won't be able to buy from TileBar. But it is great just to see the possible choices. I totally understand how my inspiration photo and my actual kitchen are totally different, it is just that I thought possible to borrow one isolated concept... Regarding the flat side of the island - yes, it does have a shaker style trim same as on cabinets, so it definitely looks more finished than on my mockup :) So, to sum things up, you advise against using slab backsplash on the window wall, no matter what style of tile backsplash we decide to go with, right?...See MoreWhite "mid-mod-ish" ideas for backsplash and countertops
Comments (37)I think what you are considering would be lovely. Don’t get hung up on design terms to the point that they limit your choices. I assume that, when you install new counters, you will eliminate the 4 inch backsplash....See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
