Thanks for your ideas! Paint color - I like the idea of painting the triangle, I never thought of that! I think we should keep the trim and a (larger) post white, do you agree? Landscaping - We've lived here a couple years. The landscaping is pretty much what's in the picture. I have planted flowers each year right by the sidewalk heading up to the porch.

The house is great just as it is. As others have said, what it needs is a good landscape plan. Add a curved planting area from the corner of the walkway to the end of the house. And plant a specimen tree further out into the yard. You'll be adding value to your home as well as making it look more interesting and welcoming. Be sure to keep the plants from blocking your low windows.

Several things you could do: Remove the flower bed in front of the door; it’s usually not a good thing to plant right in front of your main entry. Mentioning the front door, paint the bright white trim to match the door. Same on the garage - match the trim to the door. Remove those shutter-ettes from the second story windows. Very obviously fakes. Have you thought of a shade of green for your house body? Samples below. I like the brick and it goes well with your roof.

Such an unfortunate addition. The previous owners lost their minds. I’d try to match the roof angle of the addition to the rest of the house, but keep the roofing material consistent. Lots of glass like the doors you suggest would work, but think more glass than framing and wood, like a wall of windows. Switch out the deck railing to modern sleek horizontal railing. You might even clad the addition to match the dark wood on what look like they should be garage doors on the original structure. After all that, think outdoor lighting and landscape design. The house looks like it’s in a hole with no drive up or driveway (which is what makes it kind of look like the back of the house) and the cinder block pieces with lanterns on top don’t do justice to the original, very cool structure.
