Dog-friendly hedge in Southern California (Temecula)
Comments (7)I have some experience with dogs and landscaping. I've found that my dogs (small dogs at that), will simply forge their way through any plants standing in their way. If they are determined to get through to something on the other side, they will find a way. Usually that means they break branches, and with time, end up killing or flattening the plants in their way. The only effective way I've found to keep my dogs from doing that, is to use poultry netting to block off sections of my yard that I don't want them in. After a few months, I remove the netting and they are just so accustomed to having that blocked off, that they will stay away even without the presence of the netting. One plant I have found extremely useful as a hedge in desert areas in Sedum Praealtum. It requires absolutely no water in the summer. I started this entire hedge around the patio about a year ago from small 3-inch cuttings. In the winter, the leaf tips will blush red, and in spring, it'll bloom out the brightest yellow blooms. I will be cutting these back this next weekend so if you'd like any cuttings, I could send you a boxfull of them if you pay for postage. Just send me a private email....See MoreShould we enclose our patio for an additional room?
Comments (39)Thank you, everyone. It's such a modest amount of space, but it really makes a difference to have my own little area. And as a former California girl, I really treasure the light in that room, particularly in winter. shades_of_idaho -- we did have our old, scary futon in here for a while, but I banished it to the basement after I found a sofa bed that would fit. We tried to get rid of it a few years ago by putting it out on the front sidewalk (usually a surefire method), and no one took it! A free futon! In a college town! And no takers! desertsteph -- I told myself I would relearn crewel embroidery after the room was finished, but I still haven't gotten around to it. My grandmother taught me many years ago, and I have several half-completed projects. As for the fans in my room, they're made in a little shop about an hour north of me in Illinois. I negotiated a discount by buying two and driving out to the workroom to pick them up. I love their unique look. yogastef -- You're right, it does bring in nature. Makes it more peaceful. I sometimes think it was an incredible folly to spend so much on a sliver of a room, but your comments make me feel better about it, and I really do love it....See MoreWhat does $1M buy you in LA? Comments (84)i like your new plan except I really don’t think that master bath layout is feasible. it will be tough to get into the bath, even harder to clean the bath. I might shrink that bath a bit and add the space to bedroom 2. some Above are saying they’d prefer 2 large bedrooms. I think that’s legitimate But personally id rather have 3 bedrooms even if 2 are small, unless no kids. Even with 1 kid the spare room will be useful as office or playroom one thing is to understand what a 9x10 room really is like. We had one for our master (no closet either!!) for years. It’s very tight. A queen bed fits but not with space on each side. However for kids and twin beds it will be fine but not a lot of extra space. One bed one dresser maybe a small desk. You might mock one up with painters tape on the floor to get an idea....See MoreWork dilemma. Should I snitch?
Comments (65)Well, turns out this is all obsolete. Her family ended up ratting her out to her relative in HR. She told me it was a huge deal because her family had assumed that she had already informed the HR relative, because why wouldn't she? They had just kind of mentioned it in passing at a family event that she was excited for her new job and the HR relative ending up contacting her and asking her directly. So there was no need for me to fret at all. They have apparently requested a formal resignation letter with her official last day, which she will be delivering on her first shift back later this week. And then they can start looking for her replacement. My boss contacted me tonight when I got to work and asked if I knew of anyone I could recommend before they start just going through hundreds of random resumes and I do not. I told him I only have 1 request of them during their search: NO FUDDY DUDDIES! I do not need some stick up the backside fuddy duddy coming in here and ruining the fun over the holidays.... He assured me that they would keep them on a temp status at least until Halloween went up, and we can gauge their reaction, and know whether or not to keep or toss em. ( He was kidding I am sure, but I WAS NOT) Anyway, just wanted to update!...See MoreYardvaark
