I want to do navy accents. Maybe two neutral sofa's and two accent chairs in navy. What about the two cut out areas on each side of the fireplace? We are thinking of putting TV above the fireplace.

Here are two pics from the two previous owners...we do NOT have a deer head! Thank you for your help and ideas! :)

Thanks for sharing your photo facing into the other room. Kitchen cabinet style is always a good indication of the overall esthetic of the home. Here are some ideas to move you forward based off your color choices. I would do a more natural drapery panel at the windows. The white is stark. I would drop down a show stopping chandelier. I brought in a medium blue and navy blue chair for color only to show you both could work. You might think about mixing in some leather and natural linen upholstery. Finding a rug that ties these elements together will be key. It also needs to work with the stone colors in your fireplace like this one pictured would.

The t.v. will be way too high above the fireplace. Add some great artwork above there instead then add matching cabinets on either side of the fireplace. Above one, add the t.v. with a pullout mount for easy viewing and artwork above the other to balance it. Add two chairs in front of the windows with the sofa opposite them facing the windows and another facing the fireplace. An area rug will ground the seating area.

katrina_ellen - Thank you for the compliment. That chair is one of my favorite pieces. It's the Theo chair from West Elm. Unfortunately it was discontinued recently for reasons which escape me, although its discontinuation might simply be part of an "artificial scarcity" marketing tactic. If you're still in the market for a unique mid-century modern piece, I'd recommend the Contour chair also by West Elm. This chair is more comfortable than the Theo and its unique design will be sure to garner compliments. The reason I kept it out of the living room is that I wanted all living room furniture to be as short as possible to maximize the natural light we get.

Wow, Grover nailed the fireplace wall dilemma! I don't love those individual bowls, but the sizes and layout are fantastic. The really echo the round sculpture on your table and add a nice contrast to all of the boxy angles in the room. I vote for something that has a soft or textured surface like woven bowls.

When you get a rug ....you can select drapery panels to match...there doesn’t appear to be enough room for drapes that pull closed for privacy..so you may have to use narrow panels only at the edges and get pull down shades for privacy...if the shades are translucent and white you will be able to close them during the day (as well as night) without losing the natural light...shades that pull up ..or down ...will offer even more privacy options....

You have a lovely place to begin with. Just my personal suggestions. Hang the art over the desk lower and side by side vs staggered as it is now. Center the bookshelf on the wall to the left of the window not catty cornered. Can you switch walls the tv is on? Or is the hook up on that wall? If you can switch move the tv to the wall the sofa is on and center it. You can float the sofa parallel to the other wall with a walk way behind it. If you can’t move the tv try moving your sofa out from the wall and maybe put a console behind it for lamps. Either option would reduce the space between seating and tv and feel cozy. Is there a color you really like or several? Your room could use some additional color. Art, pillows, a throw, small chair or floor cushions or a rug would be ways to add it.

I also would put your TV next to the FP. Looks like there's room for a big TV. Matching cabinets would look nice.

How fortunate are you to have such great bones to start with. I would not place the TV above the fireplace. It will be way too high and it will be a difficult install with the storm. I would do some custom built ins on either side of the the fireplace. You could place your TV. to left of fireplace if you so choose. I love the neutral colors in the space it makes it soothing and airy. I am not sure I would go as deep as a navy. If you want to bring a blue in a would bring in a medium to light blue.

Before making decisions on what colors to bring in I would visually strip away everything not attached and previously brought in by former owners and ask these questions:

1. Besides watching TV what else will you be using the space for? Think about number of people using this space daily and if you host things how many people then?

2. What do you love about the space (floors? Mantel? Fireplace stone? beamed ceilings?)

3. Out of those things do you love them as is or would you change something about them if you could?

4. What do you dislike? Why? be descriptive in your reasoning.

Can we see the other side of this space? What does the room connect to ? Will the color you're thinking of work in that space as well so that they have a connection?

Navy would not be a direction I would head.

I would just use light and dark neutral fabrics in your room.

Thanks everyone! I was thinking navy accent chairs, pillows and rug with neutral sofas. I like the idea of TV to the left of fireplace. Here is a pic of the other side of room into breakfast nook and kitchen.

You have a really beautiful space to work with. I agree with putting cabinets on either side of you FP.

Not long ago, I was in a home that had used two Linea dressers from Crate and Barrel flanking each side of the FP. I believe they are actually sold in their bedroom line, but they looked stunning in the living room. They are pricey, but worth a look if you have the budget and they are a size that fits your space.

Having the TV to the right of the FP would allow you to enjoy the view. I’d try moving your existing furniture around a bit to see how you like that feel.

And if you don't own any furniture for this space I'd say post a sketch of the room dimensions and you will get some helpful advice here. Good luck with this pretty room!

A to scale floor plan is always nice. Yes to 2 matching cabinets one on each side of the FP one for the TV and one for a great piece of art above it. Navy is an easy color to add to neutrals but we need to see your pieces or at least some pictures your style to know where to add it. It is a really great space so should be fun to decorate.I would get some 10% solar shades on those windows to save the furniture and floors from bleaching out. This is such a light airy room I would try to keep that feel so no dark heavy furniture. An easy way to give us some idea of your style is to add some pics to your idea books,I think bringing in one more color with the navy and neutral might be nice for sure some navy in the rug

Blue is a hot trend this year. A couple chairs can really do the trick. Throw in a ceiling fan and you have something like this:
