Mattress foundation question for Latex/Memory foam topper
Comments (0)Ok Here's the question. Why should one spend what seems to be a good deal of money for a 8" foundation for either a 3" firm Latex or Memory foam topper? Why wouldn't a good firm inexpensive 8" foam base work? After all you're really only sleeping on the topper. I don't see the point of expensive custom multi-layering. I priced a Talalay latex mattress and the 8" queen size foundation was over $2000 and the 3" topper was only around $400. Both were the same firmness so what was I getting with a $2000 base? Even with Memory foam there's all sorts of pricey combinations but in the end there's the 2" or 3" topper your sleeping on. What does the base really do other than support the topper? (And yes I've read about the air flow foundation advantage but it seems a little far fetched to me...) Also does anyone know where I can purchase a good reasonable 8" foundation for a platform bed?...See Moremattress topper: latex vs. memory foam? 1' vs. 2'?
Comments (11)The topper is just a temporary fix. You will usually start to feel the discomfort again when in a couple of years. Usually people buy too hard of a mattress and they don't get the support that you need. When you lay on a mattress it should conform to you back or side. Lay on the mattress the same way that you sleep. Never go shopping for a mattress by price. Find the comfort that you like and then talk price with the salesperson. In general, I tell my customers to plan on spending at least $1200.00 for a new mattress. Again, don't use this as a guide to shop with, but more as an eye opener to be ready for the price. Most people would be happier on Platinum Dreams, Restonic, or Simmons. These are my favorite brands in order. Comments (40)Sure, we got ours at Sleepez.com, linked below to the page of the closest match to ours, 100% Natural Talaylay queen, split w/3 layers. They ship from Arizona and it was delivered in 2 boxes. We chose to swap out one of the layers to make my husbands side a bit more firm and they did everything they promised they would and were extremely nice about it. The owner returned calls promptly and over all, we had a really good experience with the company. Pros: It's organic and environmentally friendly, the latex is imported but moulded in the US. Customizable to meet each persons firmness needs. Long life span. Resistent to dust mites. Cons: Depending on someones sleep pattern the layers can shift a little and may occassionally need to be realigned. Note: The return policy has changed some since we bought ours, be sure you read it as it may be something to consider. After years of buying one pillow top mattress after another with the same terrible results, we were desparate to find something that would accomodate both of us (we have very different sleeping needs) and this has been the perfect option. I doubt with the life span of these we will ever need to buy a whole new mattress again. Granted, it's not for everyone but... Comments (49)I have my actual mattress encased in a zip up protector. On top of that I have the cuddlebed which is fairly thick, then I have my fitted sheet. I change the sheets at least once a week. I will from time to time when the sheets are off take the cuddlebed off and run it through the dryer no heat air fluff. It also gets washed on occasion, cold water wash gentle and air dry then I lay it over the back of the couch under the ceiling fans to finish drying and get air as close as I can get to line drying. It does not get dirty, oily, or have dust mites. It stays very clean with the sheet covering it....See MoreElmer J Fudd
