Ideas on increasing curb appeal to older home
Comments (9)If budget allows I would basically start over with the porch. The width would be much better if it went from outside edge of window to outside edge of window. Also the steps need to be moved so that they line up with the front door. I know it would cost a bit but I would have the tree (or what remains of it) removed. If you want a roof on the porch then I would do a gable roof that matches the slope of the existing roof. After that cleaning up and redoing some of the landscaping would be in order. Paint the front door a bright color that makes it more of a focal point. Lighting, both porch and a coach light in the yard would also be a good idea. Comments (15)Shutters should appear to be operable, so they would need to be as wide as the window... so if closed, they would cover the window. So no shutters on your house. I agree with taking out the boxwood that have been butchered. If you take the bed all the way to the sidewalk, you need a pocket bed on the left side. Yes to learn more about pruning the Crepe Myrtle. Ever heard of Crepe Murder? It's a thing. LOL Honestly you don't even have to prune them. We had several over 30ft tall at our last house, but you don't want one too tall right next to the house. Having lived in the South all my life, I don't have a problem with the grass since we get rain. No idea where you live, but the grass looks healthy. Unless you want to spend every weekend gardening, or hire a gardener, I would not go to the extreme of removing the grass. If there room for a wooden bench on the front porch?...See MoreAny ideas on increasing the curb appeal of our pictured house?
Comments (6)Very cool house! Your view of course and location is worth the effort of painting. To enhance the architecture of the house, paint the house and trim the same color. I would suggest a fairly dark slate blue. Then the shape of the house would be unified and nestled into the landscape as it was originally designed to do. The contrast with your reddish roof would be nice. A nice extra large entrance "waterhog" mat at your front door in a dark blue to cover the concrete in front of the door would be useful. Your front door could go brick red, or navy blue. You could have one bench or chair to the right of your door. Keep your landscaping simple around the front door. Maybe a water feature or bird bath with day lilies around it or some other easy perennial. Line your walkway with low growing plants and keep them uniform. You could scatter some pots around the back with flowers of your choice....See MoreWhat would you propose to enhance curb appeal of my house
Comments (14)The very best thing would be a couple of BIG trees in the front yard to go with the big trees in back. The house architecture says Live Oak and Southern Magnolia, but I don't know if that's your zone or climate. Oaks are always good. And patience. Other than that, the Fat Albert in the bottom right is lonely and could use some company. The two bushes in the center slope blocking the front door view make no sense and the boxed bushes in front of the house don't go with the free form bushes on the bottom left and house right. Ditch all the boxed bushes in front of the house for smaller dwarf shrubs that don't need to be sheared to maintain their size....See Morecat_ky
