Finished Bathroom Pics (two bathrooms!)--very pic heavy
Comments (41)Wooo!!! Cat, I am stuck at home because of the snow storm so wandered around here not looking at anything in particular and came upon your thread. I totally agree with you on the shower curtain choice. Regardless of whether I have the money to spare or not, keeping those suckers clean is a nuisance over time. We have a glass shower door that was installed back in 2003 and I can't tell you how much I hate cleaning it. Not that the door is all that dirty, but a shower curtain is way easier, and you can change the look/style whenever you feel like it. Can't do that with a pricey shower door. Anyway, everything looks lovely as usual, including the "prom" dress :-) Love, love those circular tiles, and the floor tiles that look like fabric. Gorgeous. What colour is that again? It looks greyish on my monitor....See MoreIn search of a bathroom faucet
Comments (16)Yes, although I also looked at the Trinsic, but thought the Ara might work better. If faced with a two-handle faucet, my child will very quickly destroy it by twisting it too hard and too far to make sure that the water is actually off. Not sure why so concerned about getting the water off. One would think it would be obvious that the water is off, but my child is hearing impaired (so can't hear if it is running) and a few years ago was constantly leaving the bathroom with the water running full force. I think seeing my alarm when I realized the water was still running and also having to answer me when I would ask whether the water had been completely turned off prompted my child to go to extreme measures to make sure the water is totally off---to the point of breaking faucets. My child also has some vision difficulties, as well as dementia---thus forgetting to do things like turn off the water. So we need sturdy faucets and, definitely, one-handle faucets. I do like the look of the Hansgrohe, but pretty certain it's more expensive than the Delta faucets I've been considering....See MoreDo you have a bathroom faucet you love or hate?
Comments (14)The little sink plunger is called the pop up. I haven't seen the ones that aren't connected. That sounds like a newer system -- no idea. Danze and Brizo are fairly high end brands though Brizo is fancy Delta I believe. It's most helpful for suggestions if someone posts photos. Vanities are generally 36" high. So, if the med cabinet is a tall one, it needs to clear 36 plus the height of the faucet, plus say 2 inches. With a 48" vanity and a single sink, I wouldn't want a tiny faucet. If you get a modern style with a top lever that ads to the height. A bridge faucet or separate hot/cold spouts should be lower. I'm planning a budget powder room expansion to add a shower to our first floor. I made sure I went to the showroom and handled the shower fixtures. I would do the same with sink faucets. The heavier the better (more brass). There aren't so many complaints about bath faucets. Most have ceramic cartridges which can break but are easy to replace. Warrantys vary so I'd read the fine print. Also, some manufacturers, like Rohl, have tiers of product. I happen to have Rohl/Perrin & Rowe nickel faucets & shower in our master. Those have been excellent and 0 issues in 12 years. They still look new. I love the color of the nickel but would likely not get it again as it needs to be polished up periodically....See MoreHookup bathroom faucet to kitchen plumbing?
Comments (10)In most cases the plumbing supply lines for the kitchen and bath sinks are identical size (probably 1/2"), and the entire house has the same water pressure. There is no more stress on the ones in the kitchen than on the ones in the bath. Start out by turning off the water in the house and installing new 1/4 turn shutoffs on the lines coming out of the wall under the sink (shuts off water with only a 1/4 turn). You can solder them on, or they also sell valves that have a compression fitting for copper pipe. This article has a simple explanation. http://www.familyhandyman.com/plumbing/valves/how-to-replace-a-shutoff-valve/view-all . If you have a copper pipe coming out of the wall, SharkBite also sells a shutoff valve that requires no tools. http://www.homedepot.com/p/SharkBite-1-2-in-Chrome-Plated-Brass-Push-to-Connect-x-3-8-in-O-D-Compression-Quarter-Turn-Angle-Stop-Valve-23036-0000LF/202270612 Pictures in the article above show shutoffs with a compression fitting on top to connect the supply line to the sink. Instead of using a compression fitting and metal pipe I would use braided flexible supply lines that thread on in place of the compression fitting. One like this should work. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Homewerks-Worldwide-3-8-in-O-D-x-1-2-in-IPS-x-12-in-Faucet-Supply-Line-Braided-Stainless-Steel-7223-12-38-2/203082011 Bruce...See MoreNidnay
