Colors for stair rail spindles and railing
Comments (5)One question: does the center spindle (not sure what it's called but the one that's fatter than all the others in the middle of the swirl at the bottom of the steps) - does that get painted too or should it match the railing?...See MorePainting stair railing black
Comments (13)The colors I would choose for the railing and spindles would really depend on what colors will be in the rest of the space. Not all wood in a home has to be the same, but they do need to work together. Depending on the wood used in your furnishings I may leave the rail and paint the spindles. I wouldn't use black and white unless it fit with the rest of the décor and the feeling of the space. I may choose just black or just white. If I used a white or chose black and white I would want the white to match my trim. I would probably use softer colors that were a shade darker or lighter than my walls. Might use an accent color. I would wait until after the floors were done and the new wall paint color selected before choosing the color for the stairs....See MoreDo my new hardwood floors need to match stair railing & posts stain?
Comments (4)It seems like being in the same color family, they don't clash and won't look odd. I wouldn't replace them yet. If, after you finish the stairs and they look awful (which they won't) then you can do it. But I would wait and see how it looks. I don't think everything should be the same color. Then there's no contrast....See MoreLabor cost to replace stair railing, balcony railing, and handrails?
Comments (10)"Looks like carpenter rates for the zip code can run between 20-25 bucks an hour as a base pay hourly. Let's say hundred hours labor since we don't know what materials we are working with so it might take longer than expected or than one person on the crew. Plus maybe another 500-1000 for handling others materials fee. So maybe around the ballpark of 2500-3500 base for labor?" You are breathtakingly mistaken. Sure, that's what a rough framer may get paid; a handrailer is getting just under boat builder pay. What about the worker's compensation, and the employer side of the tax burden? This can be 33% or more. What, his truck to get to the job runs on air? The insurance on my trucks are $14.00 a day for each. People have no idea how expensive running a business is. The guy who rebuilt the stair at $5,800.00 is going broke. He may limp along, but he's certainly never going to be able to retire....See MoreDesign Girl
