This is odd, puzzling, and most of all: bugging.
Comments (9)*Are ALL of the traps on the plant doing this, or is it just a few? *Are they open and closing more than 7 times each? (Normal traps can only open and functionally close approxiamtely 7 times. This is because in order to close the trap the plant must lengthen the cells in its leaf, and after 7 or 8 times it cannot physically stretch the cells any further, and so the leaf either dies, or stretches out and serves another few weeks or days as a photosynthesis leaf, thus still supporting the plant.) *How much light is your plant getting? (Carnivorous plants react strangely to defiencies in light-sundew will curl the edges of their leaves under and create non sticky leaves, nepenthes will refuse to pitcher at all, sarracenias may go into indefinite dormancy and refuse to grow...) *What humidity is your plant around? (humidity can have similar effects to light) *Are you watering it with boiled water, spring water, rain water? (Chemicals in water and soil can cause plants to react strangely, a sort of warning signal) *Is the plant dying off, attempting to flower, recently been shifted, repotted, gone through any distressing or different experiences that may have triggered abnormal behaviour? *How many bugs does your plant get? (It may be trying to catch bugs to cure a defeciency in minerals, only their are no bugs, or not enough for it to catch. (Remember the trigger hairs must be continually triggered for at least 5 sometimes more minutes for the trap to begin to digest with most plants, so live bugs are best.) Other than that I can't really help. :(...See MorePlease help diagnosis my pea problem
Comments (9)I call it WWD 'warm weather disease' and it affects my spring planted peas every single year, even in new soil. My peas end up looking exactly like yours do where they begin yellowing at the soil line and working upwards. In the past I have been able to keep them around a bit longer by spraying with neem oil (a mild fungicide/inseciticide), but it's really the heat that's the problem. My peas just recently started yielding and that's only because our 80f+ temps dropped. Today the high will be ~60F+ and raining. Anyway, there are a couple things you can do which may or may not help. If you have some miracle grow or other fast acting fertilizer, fertilize them to see if it will prod them into producing. In spring it's always a race for me to get peas to produce before the heat does them in so I usually do give them a couple nitrogen doses even though they technically aren't supposed to need it. Please do plan on a late summer sowing for fall harvest though as many gardeners find fall plantings of peas work out much better than spring plantings. In short, I don't think there is anything wrong with your peas beyond what's normal once the heat sets in....See MoreOdd Diagnosis - Enlarged Aorta???
Comments (36)Hello everyone, I am an Aortic Dissection survivor. It all started one day, thought I was having a heart attack when I really had a Pulmonary Embolis and a DVT. That was a close one. I was put on blood thinners and was told that would be for rest of life. They found this by CT scan. Supposedly no Aortic Dissection yet. So 2 months later, I felt ripple go down chest. Rushed to Naval Hospital (I'm a retiree) and they tried to figure what was going on. Did CT scan and found the Aortic Dissection from the heart to where it branches off to the legs. My aorta was 6.2 cm. I was at Naval for 4 extra hours while they were waiting on a doctors decesion from a local hospital before they finally airlifted me to the hospital that said 4 hrs earlier they would do it. Time is critical. I call mine John Ritter syndrome. They did emergent open heart surgery, replaced my ascending aorta and aortic valve. I still have an active dissection and get CT scans yearly. I am on 4 different blood pressure meds, blood thinners and other meds. I also had to have my left leg amputated above the knee because the original dissection cut off blood flow to the leg. This all wouldn't have happened if they had said something 2 months earlier. The first CT scan showed my aorta at 5.1 cm. I really thank Naval Hospital for the great care (not). No one spoke up and said something at the time. If someone had, I might still have my left leg!...See Morewe have a diagnosis for my DH...
Comments (61)You all continue to be the most inspiring group and source of strength. Donna: I admit I at first was upset by your post and had to back off and then regroup and come back. Took me a bit to admit that but wanted to be truthful since you were baring your soul too. This is fortunately a place where one can open up and I APPRECIATE that you did. eastsider - you have provided a wealth of info as has Donna and I thank you. Just knowing there are others out there that are willing to give of their time to think about another's situation is so helpful. peacanpie : as an RN I used to see the "reminding" all the time when I visited homes in my job. I always was sensitive to that. Funny how it is hard to "see" what we do personally vs professionally ! Thank you for your insight too. I always love all your posts. catmom- how generous of you. thank you for including us I really feel cherished by all of you. doceolatin: thank you at times the only words anyone needs are " I'm thinking of you". igloochic: you are right as you have found ,just knowing the "name" of the enemy is a place to start. I certainly hold you in my thoughts also and hope that you and your family are able to get a positive movement now that you know what the dx is. claire- thank you too. I am so pleased that you and your DH were able to come out the other side with him doing well. All: this is such a nebulous dx. It isn't anything that we can really put our finger on. Yesterday he sat and made a ton of calculations so we could get these pictures hung on our DR...see the decorating thread if you are interested. He was never frustrated and did fine. He is meditating every day and says that helps. It is a curse and a blessing to be very bright !! He and our oldest son are going to see Blue Man group tonight ??? I think that is what they are called . Sunday night he played at a reception for the Gov of Alabama and the Korean owners of a new auto manuf. supply business that is coming to Alabama. So he is functioning very well at present. We will see what is what as time goes on. It makes me peaceful to know that I can say anything to you all and be accepted. That is one of the great things also about our UU fellowship. We have "joys concerns and milestones" at each service. You can speak them aloud or just light a candle and hold them silently. It is wonderful that we can say anything. But...there is a relief present in this forum due to the anonymity . Thank you ...every one of you...thank you...Caroline...See More- 4 years ago
