Mid-century Living/Dining Room

Help! I need advice on finishing our Palm Springs mid-century living/dining room. Furniture is mostly vintage and badly in need of reupholstering. Does it work together? Should I cull or add any pieces? What about colors and fabrics? What about rugs?

I don’t love the dining table it looks a bit light in the space , I find the lamp in the LR a bit large scaled for the sofa and you need a lot more lighting . Maybe George Nelson lights above the table but I would like to see a wood base on the table with some teak chairs maybe. I think the LR pieces are awesome and I think I would reupholster in the same colors . I think with a bit of a hunt you can find better art though. Now that you have gone down the rabbit hole

Looking good so far. I would definitely add a rug to both the living area and dining area. The dining table does seem to get lost so maybe a wood table or a least chairs that are more substantial.

Our new house has a lovely open-beam ceiling and a great view from the living room (see pics), but very little lighting and the room lacks sufficient light at night. I want to put some kind of carefully installed plug-in lighting (hardwiring that ceiling will be difficult as you can see) that blends in well to the look of the room and doesn't detract too much from the ceiling. Any suggestions? I think my options are to install a plug-in track type lighting system on the two white beams, or to hang two (or more) pendants - again with the cords carefully hidden and nicely installed. The light above the dining table is a swag but doesn't give off enough light, so we'd likely replace that. I could get wall sconces installed but am trying to avoid the expense of an electrician. Thanks for your suggestions!

I would also consider ceramic based lamps, however you can consider a brass floor lamp. These are not expensive floor lamps from Target. Lamp Shade is separate selection. This one below from Target Ford Collection All these table lamps below are also from Target and might be worth considering.

The table to me is more a euro italia design so it seems like it needs some some high style mid-century-inspired instead of plain chairs. Your black chair is probably something I'd try and maybe these. The last vintage ones are just for inspiration.

Regarding the rug, the color is great but a touch too traditional in design. No matter what you choose, you‘ll be tied to It. If it has more colors, you can go bold or use more subdued shades when you tire of a look.

my first thought was that the space needs rugs as well - to help define each space. I actually didn't see the dining table at first! I do love the couch and two chairs - the vibrant color is great; if it needs replaced I'd say do another vibrant color if you don't want to keep the blue, but I love it.

I agree with everyone else that rugs are needed. The dining table does get lost so something with more visual weight would help. I also think the art doesn't really fit the MCM style.
