Ribbed Le Creuset, Glass Cooktop?

I have my mother’s oval Le Creuset Dutch Oven. It must be from the 60s. We haven’t used it much, mainly because it is so big and we are a small family. Well, we just realized questions about two features:

It has a ribbed bottom, but we have a smooth glass cooktop! Will the sauté be effective? Other cooking, too, but especially the sauté or browning?

It has a square knob. It must be cast iron, it certainly isn’t plastic or stainless steel. Were their knobs ever cast iron? What does the newer phenolithic knob feel like? Just want to be sure we can put the lid in the oven.
