Etoile de Hollande v. Crimson Glory? (or other red climbers?)

Hi all

I've been searching for Cl Etoile de Holland for years, motivated by discussions such as

...and also by reports that it grows and flowers well on north-facing walls (i.e. shade)....And also, if I'm honest, because I'm a bit stubborn and am unwilling to give up on my hunt for a rarely-available rose; and also I'd like to preserve something that seems to be rare here in the US.

Right now I have a request in with RU to propagate Cl. EDH for me and am willing to wait for it to be available next year.

However, in the event that RU doesn't come through, does anyone have any comments on whether I should just give up and get a Cl. CG? At least I know I can get CG! And I'm getting tired of looking at the blank spot.

Or is there any other strongly-scented red climber with good qualities, less common than CG but at least obtainable in the US? Orfeo?

The rose will go against a fence where it will receive part sun but also a fair bit of shade. Also, I'm in a mediterranean climate; hot dry summers, but I do irrigate, at least for now. (Heading toward hot dry winters too, judging from this year.)

Thanks!
