Val's rescue and rehab.

It was freezing cold when we picked him up in Louisiana. The ground had so much sleet on it that it looked like snow. He came out like a half crazed beast, violently shaking. I wondered what I had gotten myself into this time. I had brought a thick blanket for him. Gave him hay and took off for home. Down the road, we stopped and I took this picture. It made me cry. He looked so hopeful. Like a different horse.

This pic was made a few days after he came home.

A couple of weeks later. I could see he was a well bred horse and had promise of being beautiful.

Seven weeks later he looked like this.

This is what he looks like now. Two vets told me he was mid 20's...so that was 2 years ago, so 27-ish now. Looks great for an old guy.

This a Vine that was planted in my garden by a squirrel. By the end of fall, it had turned a corner and was working its way down the driveway.

dedtired, I had a similar vine a couple of years ago, not nearly as long as yours but I suspect the same kind. I thought it might produce either some kind of melon or pumpkin or something like that but it never did. Did yours produce anything useful?

Annie, you threw a monkey wrench into my plans today. I already had the vines ready to go, but I can't let California Day pass unrecognized. These are scenes from a few of my favorite spots:

Murraysmom, the vine would get little squash on it but they fell off ,before they got very big. Looked a bit like pattypan squash.

Murraysmom I would have bought that Vespa. For as long as I can remember I have wanted one. I may just have to buy one, one of these days, and learn to ride it. Then, when I get older, and bicycling is getting to hard... I could ride it...

Moni, I love that idea!! It was a real beauty and I think they were asking $1800. It doesn't show great in the picture but it was a nice butter colored yellow. I tried riding my brother's Honda 50 once and ran it into the garage wall, so I'm pretty sure I won't be trying that again. :)
