Medicine Cabinet problem
Comments (2)This is so disappointing, I'm so sorry about your cabinets. I purchased two Kohler mirrored medicine cabinets from Lowes, and they were extremely well packed, in fact, they were tough to get out of the box there was so much styrofoam packed around the entire cabinet. Plus, each medicine cabinet has two mirrors, one on the outside (of course) and one on the inside of the door (so that when you open the door all the way you can get close to your reflection), and both of these mirrors were coated with a thin film of translucent plastic that makes the mirrors look fogged. Finally, the interior back wall is mirrored however I don't think this has a protective film on it since it is inset into the cabinet. I've no doubt that the rep will make this right for you....See MoreHas anyone bought cabinets off Ebay - NEW
Comments (41)The JSI factory is in Fall River MA. The address is: 485 Commerce Drive, Fall River, MA 02720 All of the displays are there and the cabinets are really lovely. However, they don't have full-extension drawers and only self-close not soft close. The drawers close hard/load. I was working with Stacey at Woodlist.com. He got me an appointment to see them. Their site also has a good list of the cabinets and trims available with sketches. The price point is higher than Nieghbors, but Stacey said that was flexible. Their link is below. I also went and saw the Kabinart cabinets that are available from mfkusa.com. They are great! There are lots of choices in doors, colors, cabinets and trim. The construction is top notch. The price is comparable to the JSI line. Has any one used the Kraftmaid cabinet buyer that goes to the warehouse for you? Here is a link that might be useful: Woodlist cabinets...See MoreHas anyone used Showplace Cabinets?
Comments (9)Jakuval here- first- my mantra-who you buy from is more important than what brand you buy. Second- I've carried SWP for 5 years, only brand I have at that price (all but one are more) I have not sold much SWP in the last year. That has nothing to do with them, just customer choices and pricing. I happen to have a regional brand of a slightly nicer cabinet that prices exceptionally well and many have opted to move up to that. (particularly when comparing to SWP's veneer interior option) I have seen a few posts on this forum in the last two years indicating what may be some growing pains (one was not getting satisfaction from KD and I forwarded post to my rep to send to HQ, was resolved next day) As they have grown I have run into small issues with tech support. Nothing more than new trainees not quite as astute. It simply means I have to pay attention, something I do anyway. As I re-read this it sounds a bit like a sales pitch. I did not intend that so apologize if any are offended. This is my experience, no more no less and I was mentioned. We are a small dealer so have not done hundreds of kitchens in any brand we carry (though I have over the years done a couple of thousand) My experience with companies at this price point and size is that there can always be occasional issues and that things can change in a short period of time (particularly during expansions) Point is take anything anyone says about any brand with a grain of salt. Overall-consistency of construction has been good to excellent, failure rate-zero, delivered damaged-rare, on time delivery-100%, design flexibility super,CS is very good, responsiveness-couldn't ask for more. Paints Over the last 5 yrs I've done quite a few SWP paints with zero issues. I think they have one of the best paint finishes at the price out there, comparable to higher end brands and have used them in secondary rooms in homes where we were doing much more expensive brands. I especially like the matte finish option, rare at the price point and NC. I don't like the standard (free) glaze on paint, I do like (as do many clients) the brushed and vintage paints, well done for the price point but not free. I am most often doing paint on "Paint Grade" instead of Maple but you want to understand the details of those choices. Talk with KD. Washes and consistency Since this came up I'll address this first- Showplace grey washes are not simple stains and specifically noted to have more variation. They have a standard "Finish Advisory" form the dealer is supposed to have you read and sign. NOTE that there is a bit of contradiction between what SWP has on it's website re washes and what the spec book says. IRL the spec book is accurate. I have run into issues with edges not being properly covered. It was taken care of by SWP for me. Stains To date my experience has been very good- wood grading above average for the price, consistency of color overall better than most AT THE PRICE. There are a few stains on maple that I avoid completely, not unusual for any brand. Construction I have no issue with the material used for the 1/2" ply upgrade (quite the contrary) but think it best when clients are aware of all details prior to purchase. Shelf clips- this has been a thorn in my side and they are aware of my feelings on these. They did look into changing them a couple of years ago- didn't happen. SOP I order a bag of clips with every job. Those are the ones with a metal post and plastic shelf section (they supply them standard for glass cabinets) Then I break the existing shelf clips and replace. I have not run into an issue with drawer bottoms deflecting excessively as noted elsewhere. I will try to find out if the material has changed but note that 1/4" drawer bottoms is so common as to be SOP at even higher price points. I do get heavy duty drawers for pots and pans etc, an optional extra expense. My only other complaint has been with the backs of the cabinets. It's not that they are inadequate, just that to me they should be a bit (just a little) better selected material. . Frameless- SWP is bringing out a frameless line next month. They built a new facility to do that (expansion) I have only seen the specs not actual product yet. My rep is stopping by in a couple of weeks so I have nothing to say until I see for myself. While I am reserving judgment, going in, on paper, I'm not crazy about the drawer box spec....See MoreHas anyone used RTA Cabinet Store - https://www.rtacabinetstore.com
Comments (15)We just finished a kitchen remodel using RTA cabinet store. The experience was mostly positive. We primarily were attracted to the lower price and that they were solid plywood boxes with solid wood doors and faces. however I would recommend you read the product descriptions carefully. Although they advertise no partical board anywhere, some of the painted lines did mention versions of partical board in their description. I agree that not all homes warrant 100K kitchens. We have a modest home and wanted to be realistic with our home value. For a 10×20 u shaped kitchen with island we spent about 8K for our cabinets including all the extra pull-out and organizers, decorative panels, and crown mouldings. I'll give you a tip to watch for sales, we were able to get our cabinets for 25% off during a black Friday sale. they had the same sale again around new years. I was my own kitchen designer and found their online design tool helpful. We did hire the labor to assemble and install, but our contractor said they assembled without issue. The materials did seem to be solid wood and plywood as advertised. the insides and sides of all the cabinets are finished. We have had issues with a couple of drawers coming of the glides relatively easily. the hardware is all soft close and functions well, the drawers we are having issues with don't have much in them and will lift off the glides if you don't open them carefully. not a huge deal, but kind of annoying. I think the additional weight of more items in the drawers solves the problem. So, shipping was kind of a pain, but now that my kitchen is done I'm not so bothered by that. the cabinets came quickly and they almost over-communicate with you on the delivery process. our cabinets came and the packaging was very damaged. surprisingly there were only a few items with damage. their claims policy was kind of a pain. You only have 48 hours to open and examine all of your cabinets, and file claims with photos. picture my hubby and I up until 3 am going piece by piece through around 40 heavy boxes with multiple pieces to get our claim in on time. then their online claim form wouldn't submit. I filled out the forms multiple times only for them not to go through because of issues with the website. I was able to reach a live person easily the next day (nice) who honored our claim beyond that 48 hour period because they were having website issues. they ultimately replaced all the pieces that remain visible after assembly or that might affect stability. they will not replace anything cosmetic that is not visable after assembly, like the back or top panels or shelves. I had one other issue with a can of matching stain not coming with the shipment. it took several calls and emails to finally get that stain a month or two later. We needed it for our island legs and a couple shelves my hubby built that we wanted to match. All this seemed like a big deal while I was dealing with it, but overall I'm a satisfied customer in the end....See Morenorwega18
