Why do we have a Conversations Side?
Comments (10)It's for off-topic conversations. Sometimes we may put OT posts on the discussions side, but that's not the norm. For the most part our forum has a wide-ranging amount of discussion--they may be about seeds, seedlings, the plants we grow or the gardens we make with what we do. On occasion the forum warmth spills over and the familial connection may come though in an OT post, usually made by someone who's having strong emotions and needs support. We're like an extened family here, and like all families we have our fair share of characters. Hope this helps. T...See MoreUpdate...We have arrived on the Dark Side!!!

Comments (3)Plywood is the INSIDE, the "guts." You can have an end panel that's MDF. BOTH of these will can have a veneer put on them for a flush finish. *maybe* w/ furniture-grade plywood, you can simply have the plywood itself stained and poly'd (or whatever), but often, especially in face-frame cabinets, the plywood doesn't match the wood of the frames anyway (frames are cherry; plywood is the less-expensive birch or maple), so it gets coated with a veneer. in that case, there's no reason to have plywood instead of MDF. The "beauty" coat is the veneer, and you only need something sturdy to put it on (both MDF and plywood are sturdy). If, as the "beauty coat," you use false doors, then it doesn't matter what's underneath them....See MoreOT. Why do we always want what we can't have?
Comments (7)Human Nature. The grass is always greener on the other side...of whatever it is. When I worked at the beach, what I used to call the "perma fog", where the most successful lawns were slime mold, people wanted cacti and desert scapes. A few miles inland and higher elevation, where the cacti were naturally suited, they wanted tree ferns, mosses, hydrangeas, etc. Add the desire to see something different from what surrounds you. Why should you have planted what grew all around you? All you had to do was look in the neighbors' gardens and you had what you no longer see everywhere....See Moresookmomof4
