Gallery beef up
Comments (18)Oh, you've just all made my day! Thanks for letting me know you're having fun with my gallery posts! I really do hope you all get super ideas for your own homes that make you happy. Bru (which is the name of a VERY expensive antique French doll, you know), are you getting any ideas for your yummy new digs from the gallery? Yaya thanks -- it will certainly be appreciated if folks can bump them when they fall to page 2. That's very sweet of you. You're also welcome to add a few pics of your own to bump my threads, all of you. I love it when you do that. Joanna, I find the pics out and about on the web. I go on picture hunts. I do so love all those pics. I can mentally put myself in each of those rooms, can't you? I'm glad you're getting inspiration from them. Johnmarie, I see you contributed in both the kitchen and bathroom threads, thanks! Your kitchen cabs are what I should do to mine. Mine are goofy. I'll post pics some time. I love the bathroom pics you posted and ooo la la on the bath you did in your last home. Wow. Acoreanna, I know what you mean... the pictures make me want to axe all my rooms. hehe. OH NO!!! I can't believe your precious Dyson met such a brutal fate. You poor darling, you deserve sympathy cards. What a shock that must have been to you. I do recall hearing a crunching sound when backing up in my own car before -- very unnerving. Which model did you have? I just got the DC18 from Bed Bath & Beyond with their 20% off coupon. After days of looking around, that was the best deal from a reputable source. I love that model, btw, and it's "really on the ball." lol. Good luck and keep us posted....See MoreLamp for entry table AND what to do with wall going up the stairs
Comments (50)I like that runner. AND I need a cabinet like that for shoes, too! So, to answer your question, yes, I think you are on the right track. A rug with blues, browns, and greens would tie everything together. Keep looking. You will find it-and don't settle for something you don't love. :). Oh, and don't reject out of hand polypropylene rugs there. They are soft, have great colors, and wear like iron. Easy clean, too which is great with boys and dogs (ask me how I know). We had one in our family room which was also our most-used entrance to the house and now our son has it in his home. Also, Rugs USA is having a 65% off sale for Columbus Day. Might be fun to browse....See MoreOpen up Stairs, Pony Wall
Comments (4)You need to be a bit careful when doing major changes in a new to you home. That pony wall if opened up will allow avisual from the lower floor all the way to the halway upstairs is that something you are okay with? Then as far as the railing goes you could replace what you have with a glass railing as for opening up that tiny space below the railing I would not bother and for sure that would be the only part of that wall that could be opened so put the sculpture in front of the space or better yet just forget removing that area since IMO it will look bad and serve no purpose ....See MoreAdvice Needed: Is it worth opening up stair half/pony wall?
Comments (29)As for furniture placement, we aren’t tied to the sofa being there Not making any assumptions here, but you may want to make sure that if you do open it up, you don't really need to put anything here at all. I live in an area of old row houses with the steps down one side of the living room, and many people either have a big sofa or the TV backed up against the stair railing--and the back of the TV is even worse than the sofa. Just because you can and it may make things look more open, think hard about what the implications are of doing so with furniture arrangement and how that looks. To go back to the small houses here, lots of people take out the small entryway and other walls only to realize that once all the walls are gone there is no place to put anything. You can back a chair right up to the vestibule wall that has the front door 6" away from that chair on the other side of a wall, but take the wall down and nobody is going to back a chair up to the front door like that. You can do whatever you want, just make sure that you are really going to get what you want out of that $9000 spent....See MoreBrenda
