It just shy of the entire length of the cove. It is bent so it will stand up. My husband thinks it doesn't look right with the width of the cove.

I actually like that cove thing with the light in a weird way! Maybe you can find some brass pipe to attache to each end of the screen and run it up to the ceiling piece to attach it for stability. I would keep the screen straight - no zigzag. Center it on the ceiling piece and then put some sort of entry table in the space between the screen and the wall with a nice tall plant on it.

On a side note, since the room is so large, I would suggest a rug to anchor the table and define the space.

I agree with Debbi, Try to find a solution to work with the cove thing, either build up a base off the floor so the divider can be fully extended and looks intentionally built into a structure, or the idea of "floor to cove" brass fittings to attach at the sides and raise the divider off the floor...it can look rather cool!

Is removing the cove ceiling section on the table? Because that would get my vote.

If not, I like Debbi's suggestion. I really like the screen and think it will look great once you get everything configured.

How tall is your folding piece?

Could you add a pony wall height glass door sideboard cabinet beneath the overhead light cove ceiling -- the same width and depth of it -- and then hang the piece you've purchased (horizontally from the entry side of the of the overhead fixture) enabling you to both use the light from the cove ceiling and use the room divider you like.

Debbie Washburn, thank you! Making the divider appear to be a fixed feature, with a brass attachment is exactly what we had in mind. Our concern is the width of the cove is wider than the width of the divider (the length works perfectly in that area). When it is straightened out there would only be about 2 inches or so from the wall & 2 inches to the end of the cove.

My husband thinks the wide cove with the narrow divider doesn’t match. Even if it’s centered & anchored. That’s why we’re considering removing it.

I like the room divider, and I also agree, it looks better with something there. It should be straight though, not staggered, and it needs to be anchored tight, so it stays straight.

Can you remove the ceiling piece and then patch that cove molding in so it looks good? Find a way to make this work - it is a great idea and will look really cool whether keeping the ceiling piece or not..
