Mid Century Room Divider Dilemma

jackie_desana

We purchased a room divider that I love for the entry of our newly purchased Mid-century home. The front door opens into a very large dining/living room. I want the divider so that when you enter the room, you aren't walking right into our dining room table.

The problem is, there is a cove ceiling where there was intentions of a planter or half wall. The original owners told us that that never happened and instead, had a buffet table or something.

Should we remove the cove? Am I nuts for wanting to use the divider? Will it work with the cove? We do want to make it a permanent piece since we have two dogs and many nieces and nephews.

I would love you thoughts. Thanks!
