Patio Ideas - tying in to slightly elevated covered patio
Comments (6)This is a general concept only. Part of making it successful would be adequate front-to-back depth of the planter. At the right side, I'm suggesting a rail between the post and house wall, if the planter doesn't extend that far. You might consider extending the planter back to the house and filling in that niche area between deck and bump-out and eliminating the need for the rail. If wide steps are flanked with cheekwalls their location will be obvious from a distance ... and they will look better. (I'm not suggesting the color red.)...See Moreextending roof with a patio cover and it's tight
Comments (1)I can tell you this: extending a low-pitch roof is looking for trouble. We have tons of these "patios" that were converted open sun rooms (that were just screen porches, but made into part of the existing structure by pitching the roofs a little) and they are giving our residents here nothing but trouble. Not only does the snow here destroy them and cause leaks, but the rubber roofs are a headache. (Not that I'm complaining, I get 30% of my work from them!) But just sayin' - hope you don't live up North. Now - as to the extension: It's going to be too long- too short. You'll find that the inspectors will want you to hire an architect to assure the soundness of the build. They will also prefer that you match the existing structure....See MoreSquirrels nesting in space between ceiling and roof of patio cover
Comments (2)Well, I noticed the little fella seems to leave during the day, so I went to Lowe’s and bought some hardware cloth and tamped it in there earlier today. Good timing, too, because I went straight inside and took a shower after doing it and my dog (seen poking his head into one of the above pictures) started barking at the back door a few minutes later because wouldn’t you know who came back and couldn’t get in... Didn't hear any rollicking rascality going on in there last night, so hopefully that's the end of this. Now, any chance someone can guide me about the task of removing the lower rain gutter seen in the pictures above so I can properly get at the gap and nail some flashing or something more permanent over it?...See MoreDesign help with patio cover, irregular roof line
Comments (3)Begin with a rear facing gable porch roof on the left -- same roof line as the house roof -- and then transition to a shed roof -- one with very little slope -- as your gable end transitions to the different roof line. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/107171666112536981/ If you're not wanted it to be "too dark" beneath your porch roof but fear it might be, add some skylights in the shed roof on the right side or you could even use greenhouse roofing panels for your porch / patio roof. This could be the look from the house looking outward underneath the gable end part of the roof: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/525936062739054002/ They're usually rectangles but can be cut to shape the roof. tps://www.palram.com/us/product/suntuf-diy-polycarbonate-corrugated-sheets/ This could be the look beneath the shed roofed part of the porch/patiio roof: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/562387072216882814/...See MoreBeth H. :
