I would like to get feedback on the Supercore Basics line. I am looking at Solitude for around 1,000 sf. I have an old wood subfloor that I am going to need to do a lot of leveling on. Where do you draw the line for telling someone that a 4.5mm floor is not for them? I know I only get a 12mil wear layer, but the fact that it is still Aluminum Oxide and has a stone composite core makes me feel it will be ok. Is there any difference in the locking system? The lock does not seem as hefty on the samples for the basics line. I get concerned that with an old pier and beam supported floor that has settled, even if I level the floor, will the less hardy locking system fail if I get slight movement with any further settling?

WeShipFloors.com has SuperCORE SPC Rigid Plank flooring. Their webpage has info on SPC and why it may be a better choice than LVP or WPC flooring. Read SuperCORE 101. They have several colors in gray/brown that might work for you. They have a YouTube channel with videos on all the colors and videos comparing two or more colors. They also have a FB page with good photos and info. There is a lengthy forum here on Houzz titled Adura Max versus CoreTec that has some good info and question/ answer, too, on SuperCORE. Keep in mind that a dark color floor is going to show lint, pet hair, crumbs, scratches, etc. much more than a lighter to mid tone floor with some variation. A number of the designers on Houzz seem to think the gray trend is winding down.

Haute shoppe Studio, is the Merino Oak an SPC? Do you remember what the mill layer is? I almost signed my contract for Republic SPC today in Countryside Eastern Cottonwood after having a sample of it in my home for a week. But I changed my mind today after seeing pics of it installed on Instagram. I dont like all the darker variations that almost look like stripes when it’s laid out. I also like the Coretec products but I dont know if they make an SPC.

CoreTec wood line is a hybrid product. It has the water proof core (mineral core) that is very stable (doesn't move too much). This is a core that is NORMALLY paired with laminate (a paper photograph on top) or vinyl. CoreTec has used the wood product on top to reach out to customers who will NOT have laminate or vinyl in their homes. They are trying to capture the 'wood market' without producing a wood floor. My problem with this situation is: Wood expands and contracts in the presence of moisture. This is normal and to be expected. The CORE underneath the wood DOES NOT. Hmmmmm. That means the expensive TOP stuff (that you pay $$$ for) will do everything wood is supposed to do (expand/contract) while the stuff it is GLUED TO does not. And that brings us to the next concern: the Glue. A layered floor (like CoreTec Wood) has a weak link = the glue that holds the layers together. The Wood can and will expand. That will STRESS the glue underneath. Eventually (and no one knows when 'eventually' will be...the product is so new that no one knows it's breaking point) that glue will let go. The CoreTec core works well with laminate (the photograph) and vinyl because both are relatively stable when dealing with humidity and with spills. The WOOD is NOT stable. My concern is the hype around the water proof CORE is going to be the selling feature when the WOOD on top (and the glue below) are NOT. I would get a sample of this product and soak it in a fish tank for 24-48 hours. Then pull it out and see if the wood has been affected. At that point you can assess the legitimacy of the claims re: water proof wood flooring. Please get back to us once your experiment has been conducted.
