Struggling with LVP flooring colour!

We’re going to replace our main floor flooring with LVP so that we can have a cohesive look from the front door, through the dining/music room, into the powder room, laundry room and the family room. It’s not a large footprint so we’re trying to improve the flow. We’ve settled on LVP and are looking at Mohawk Grandmont in Fossil Grey. I’m really concerned this is going to be somewhat trendy or too rustic for our home. We are also coordinating the flooring to go with the kitchen tile we installed three years ago.

I would Ike to keep the floors on the lighter side but still create a warm inviting feeling. Our main wall colours are Revere Pewter, Blue Echo (accent colour), and lots of blues teals and various shades is grey.

So, my main question is, do you think the Fossil Grey would be a good choice or should I keep looking?

It is trendy and rustic. Whether that is a problem is up to you - it would be for me:) However, LVP is not a forever floor, so if you want to be trendy, that's OK, though I find myself more and more concerned about throwing surfaces away into the landfill just for style. If you want it to blend with the tile, then you will need to go darker - but I like a little browner as in your last pic.

Light natural white oak looking flooring is big now.

Here are some pictures of the Fossil Grey - it has a mix of taupe and grey and is lightly washed.

Hi Chispa, House is a townhouse built in 1996, trying to modernize the look. As far as decorating style, I like modern/contemporary, nothing too funky. Something that would be cohesive with the rest of the kitchen, and bring the kitchen to life a little. It's very white right now.

I cannot fully explain how truly beautiful the bed is...I love the concept of using the rubber wood and to see the Japanese joinery in action is something else. My husband was very surprised at how easily and quickly this bed was assembled, and the price was much lower than other beds I had considered. As for the storage beds, we bought one for my son and it has almost negated his closet. I considered one for us and actually was pretty set on it until we made some upgrades to our closets and bought a better dresser. In the end, I felt the storage bed would make the room feel "heavier" and I decided against it. I'm glad I did because we love the Thuma bed. Good luck! Your closets are beautiful.

Basement flooring dilemma - Hardwood stairs to LVP flooring transition

We have hardwood on our main floor and LVP on our stairs down to the basement as well as on the basement floor (over cement). When the LVP was first installed on the stairs (it's been a little over a year now), my husband thought the "lip" part of the stair treads (the bull-nosed edge piece) was not installed perfectly flush and secure on several (I think 4) of the treads, so I wonder if that is not uncommon and is what your flooring contractor is worried about. I didn't even notice it, but my husband is a perfectionist and it bothered him. Rather than complain and have the installers come back to address the issue, my husband fixed the issue himself. I think he used tiny little nails (with no heads) to better secure the edge pieces to the adjoining LVP pieces, and I used dots of acrylic paint from my art supplies to cover the bitty nail holes. We have never had a problem with them since and we are up and down the stairs many times daily so they get heavy use. Just wanted to mention our experience in case that makes any difference for your decision. I don't regret using it on our stairs. We picked an LVP that coordinates pretty well with our upstairs hardwood in color, just a little more rustic which fits our basement vibe. We didn't want to introduce yet another type of flooring just for the stairs.

@lildesignworks thanks for the insights. We do have 1 room with Chantilly lace and a few rooms with SW pure white upstairs. Somehow we like the brightness of that 1 CL room. But I see your point. Thanks. Another confusion I always have is, would we be able to carry 2 colors well for the cabinets if we go with black base and white uppers. @herbflavor @emmarene9 We are not a big fan of browns :/ These are dark brown cabinets. We may go and do them actual black at the very least. I really appreciate all the help from this community!

This is a laminate sample which I can’t put in due to water issues but would this colour be more timeless?

Here’s a mid- tone but I feel it’s a bit dark (and reminds me of 1960’s wall panelling!) but maybe I should consider it?

Next to that tile you need something a little more solid with less grain IMO.

Thank you for your comments and helpful suggestions! I've lived with linoleum and the cheapest laminate flooring (what was in our home when we moved in) for 15 years so I'm not one to switch out due to trends by any means! We are only switching our floors out now due to the laminate finally beginning to split apart.

I would love to go with hardwoods but due to several factors we simply cannot go with hardwoods or laminate. I am really hoping to find a beautiful floor that will still be tolerable in another 15 years from now!

I would really like to find a more traditional/transitional looking LVP in a medium wood tone that will blend with both greys and beiges. Suggestions would be much appreciated!

the Fossil Gray isn't bad. what do you think about doing more of a natural, warmer wood like color?

I’m finally getting back to looking at flooring samples - I didn’t think it was going to be this difficult finding a colour to coordinate with out kitchen floor! I did find a few - do any of these work better? I really like the darker tone of our kitchen floor so I think I’d like to stay darker for a richer look.

what are the names (manufacturer & color) of the last 4 samples - the ones that are numbered? i like many of those!

WeShipFloors.com has SuperCORE SPC Rigid Plank flooring. Their webpage has info on SPC and why it may be a better choice than LVP or WPC flooring. Read SuperCORE 101. They have several colors in gray/brown that might work for you. They have a YouTube channel with videos on all the colors and videos comparing two or more colors. They also have a FB page with good photos and info. There is a lengthy forum here on Houzz titled Adura Max versus CoreTec that has some good info and question/ answer, too, on SuperCORE.

Keep in mind that a dark color floor is going to show lint, pet hair, crumbs, scratches, etc. much more than a lighter to mid tone floor with some variation. A number of the designers on Houzz seem to think the gray trend is winding down.
