Comments (8)The ones for enamelling are 16 gauge copper. They have to be thick so they won't warp in the kiln. Recently I've seen some artists selling enamelled switchplates at art fairs. I'm more interested in getting the blanks and maybe etching a design into them, then doing the verdigris patina. I'm a part time metalsmith and do a fair amount of etching, so thought it could be nice to bring that into my new kitchen....See MoreSource for Under Upper Kitchen Cabinet Electrical Outlets
Comments (2)The most common solution for upper under-cabinet outlets is called "Plugmold", and made by Wiremold. Home Depot carries it. Every electrical house in the country carries them. it's essentially a flat metal "tube" or "raceway" with outlets every 6 inches or every 12 inches. You bolt them to the underside of the kitchen cabinets, or to the wall under the cabinets. There are other brands of "raceway with outlets," but they're not as easy to find. They are not RECESSED, however. I don't know about the recessed version. Recessed into the wall, or recessed into the cabinets? I don't think I'd want to recess into the cabinets as a stand-alone outlet, bcs you need a metal casing, and some space, etc....See MoreElectrical outlets inside cabinets
Comments (28)Some great ideas here! I'm finally getting close to the start of the kitchen remodel (finally)! Cabinets have arrived and I'm waiting for the GC to give a start date (within the next week or two). I think I'm going to err on the side of too many outlets if possible. Here's what I'm thinking: 1. Outlet in charging station cabinet 2. Outlet in microwave shelf 3. Outlet under the sink (for possible future motionsense faucet if I decide it's worth it--not doing it now) 4. Outlet or two in Pantry I think that's all the hidden ones. I like the idea of the switched outlets since I will have an area with coffee pot, toaster, etc that it would be nice to just turn off rather than unplug everything. I'm also trying to figure out how I can hide the phone connection. Right now it's on my backsplash area and really an eyesore. I'm trying to figure out where I can move it so it's not visible. These days with cordless phones, it seems like I don't have to have the base station sitting out on a counter....See MoreElectrical Outlet Box Placement - Wall Oven In Base Cabinet
Comments (6)This is from the manual for the induction cooktop for mounting over a wall oven. Both the cooktop and wall oven would be Bosch so I can only assume they have thought about how to make their appliances play nice with each other. The cabinets would be from Ikea. Based on this picture it seems like the only space for an outlet box behind the oven (one that is not flush with the wall at least) is up high. That area seems a little tight, not sure if makes sense to try to cram anything in there. The planned base cabinets to the left and right of the oven cabinet would have drawers. The Ikea stuff leaves a few inches of space between the back of the drawer and the wall, so presumably this will accommodate outlet boxes with a side entry. I understand ranges are a much easier but we are starting from scratch in this kitchen renovation and the aim is for nicer, as long as it's feasible of course....See Moregreg_2015
