How to tell difference between Quartz and Quartzite

Hi,

I am looking for new countertops for my home and have came across the following prefab slab. The salesperson told me that this is quartzite. However, this slab has a very regular pattern of straight lines. Since quartizite is a natural stone, I would expect it to have some variations in the line angles or patterns.

I am now wondering if this is quartz. Is there any sure-shot way of telling the difference between quartz and quartzite.

I just want to make sure I am buying natural stone.

Quartz is usually stamped by the manufacturer on the back of the slab. Quartzite usually looks like dull stone on the back - not polished.

And a reputable installer will give you the maintenance instructions for the product with their warranty - calling out the material.

or snap pix and post them here or in the name that plant forum ... but then.. the camera is probably with the maps and cant be found.. lol ... or simpler.. google both names and flip to the images side .... did the first one for you ... link below ... ken ps: best hint: get a good old fashioned clip board.. and a nail ... pound nail in garage wall ... hang clipboard on nail ... and always return it to the garage after drawing on it ... when i garden.. the first trip is always to the garage to get the saw.. and shovel.. pruning shears whatever.. so why not keep the clipboard there.. once ANYTHING comes in the house.. its lost forever ... unless the name is stamped on the end or there is a tag you probably never will be able to tell without trying to match it up and even then there is no guarantee that your correct!

There are several different varieties of so-called "wild cucumbers" and they look different. But without it going to the blooming stage I don't know that you can tell for sure. Volunteers from previous crops, mulches, and compost are sure possibilities but I'd suspect "bird transport" from the patch behind the house and just pull it. Use the space for something that is a sure thing. Dave

Not really :-( I guess if you were a JM expert, you might be able to distinguish some unique leaf characteristics between the two. Otherwise, IS has a deeper, more purple wine color to it whereas CQ is more of a red. But that is a subtle distinction at best and would very difficult to ascertain unless comparing established plants side by side.

Skip the chinese Prefab blanks and deal with a more reputable fabricator and actual slab stone.

Buying blanks without being a fabricator because you want countertops is like buying metal without being an auto company because you want a car.
