Longwood Anyone?
Comments (12)Hi jealous in KY, It was a two hour drive to Longwood Gardens and worth the effort! The attendance was less on Friday morn compared to the previous two years. For me, that's good news. Less competition at the opening of the sales tent! Longwood Gardens is a magnificent indoor display area for an orchid Show. I would love to see a WOC at a venue like this instead of in an exhibition hall! The displays at Longwood are generally better than other shows that I've seen. That shouldn't be surprising. Like komi, my haul was pre-ordered plants (5) plus another that I intended to purchase anyway--no surprises. There were a couple of hopefuls that didn't materialize--no loss! What was important--the vendors were there! There were a few new ones this year, too. Bargains? at Longwood?? :-) I recommend this event to everyone who can attend in 2009. Please, don't come until Saturday or Sunday. I like the less crowded Friday scene to myself, as much as possible. --Stitz--...See MoreLongwood Gardens International Orchid Show
Comments (11)actually this is not a "replacement" for sepos's previous kop mall shows. sepos would probably still have the mall show, if the mall did not impose unreasonable charges. this is more of a merging of the sepos show and the international orchid show that longwood held last year (also organized by sepos). last year was the first year, and sepos and longwood are hoping to make it bigger and better every year. current vendor list: A&P Orchids - Swansea, Massachusetts Andy's Orchids - Encinitas, California Celebrate Orchids - Encinitas, California Create-A-Scene - Malvern, Pennsylvania Ecuagenera - Cuenca, Ecuador Fishing Creek Orchids - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania H&R Nurseries - Waimanalo, Hawaii JustPat Orchids - Honey Brook, Pennsylvania Kelly's Korner Orkid Supplies - Kittery, Maine Lois Duffin Orchids - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Miranda Orchids - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Parkside Orchid Nursery - Ottsville, Pennsylvania Stony Brook Orchids - Pennington, New Jersey The 5 Senses = West Chester, Pennsylvania The Orchidphile - Stamford, Connecticut Waldor Orchids - Linwood, New Jersey Woodstream Orchids - Huntingtown, Maryland additional info can be found here: http://www.sepos.org/longwoodshowindex.htm http://www.sepos.org/2007%20longwood%20aos%20ad2.pdf SPREAD THE WORD!!! :)...See MoreUPDATE: Birthday Extravaganza Birthday Buddies for April
Comments (146)Hey April Birthdays -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU ALL! I hope you are enjoying your month. And best of all, the month isn't over and at least one of us still needs to get some out yet! That would be me :) Alwaysagarden, could you drop me an email with addresses? Or someone. I remember getting an email that said to save it and um, well, I failed. I have kinda been a bit lost. I've been working full time for 3 months now and job will probably last another 2 months at least. I'm not used to full time. It puts a big cramp in my old routine! I love part time where there was actually time for email, internet, hobbies! And now garden time is approaching FAST! I recently found a fantastic variety of commercial seeds which surprized me -- at a local feed store! I can't wait to get back there! And I really feel a deep NEED to spend some time at the nurseries in town!!! And this job is depriving me of my addiction! Actually I'm just kidding. So glad to have the job to have the money to spend. Anyway, I haven't posted much but you April birthdays are on my mind and will do what i can soon....See MoreI'll Show You Mine if You Show Me Yours Tues May 24
Comments (10)Oh, man. I wish I could grow vandas (too hot & dry in SoCal--would take a lot of fussing). Did you grow that plant, Annie Deighnaugh? Really nice. caflowerluver, that is a really charming rose! I normally don't go for such wild colors, but the cluster of flowers is such an interesting study of the variance between individual blooms. Or maybe I'm just getting bolder as I age. My husband and I took a weekend trip to Boise, Idaho in 2012. While there we visited a rose garden. After walking the entire garden, and admiring many, we each named our favorite. I thought it was odd that out of all of the choices, we both chose the same rose. Strike It Rich...See Moremaire_cate
