Plumbing leak from shower in new house...help!
Comments (3)Was the repair listed in the disclosure? Get a hold of your agent and start squawking. Is the shower floor tiled or a one-piece? If the latter is there any flex whatsoever in the shower floor, especially around the drain? What's closest to the hole in your ceiling? The tub plumbing/drain? the shower? For low-tech sleuthing get a light up there, if you can reach even unroll some paper towels, then turn on the tub. Try with the drain open and closed. Watch where the overflow lever comes out of the tub. Watch the trap itself. Same with the other fixtures. If you find nothing, then try running the water with someone standing on the tub and/or standing in the shower. Plastic shower pans and plastic tubs can flex around the drains. Plastic tubs can also flex causing the caulk to fail where the tub mets the wall. I've even seen shower head arms cross threaded, they slowly leak over time inside the wall. Time to put on your Inspector Detector cap. Mongo...See MorePlease Help!! Brand New Shower Head Leaks When Tub is Turned On
Comments (9)First thing I'd do is read the installation instructions to see what is specified there. If they recommend "X" number if vertical inches and you're less than that, or if you used PEX and they specify "no pex" or you used pex that has a smaller inside diameter than the recommended tubing, then essentially you have an installation issue. 1/2" pex does have a smaller inside diameter than 1/2" copper. For delivering water volume to a faucet it's normally not a problem, but when depending on a specified vertical water column, I guess the smaller diameter of the pex could be an issue. I'd call the manufacturer's tech support line and ask them about remediation. No harm no foul, it's best to run ideas past them before you crack open walls. You installed the shower head lower for the kids. Let's say you have yours 25" above the valve and the manufacturer specifies 30". What you could do is have the pipe come vertically out of the valve, and run it up the wall several inches higher than the shower head, say to 40", or even all the way to the top plate of the wall, then add a couple of 90's (to create and inverted "U") and then run it back down to the shower head. That would take care of the vertical issue while allowing you to still have a lowered shower head. If your pex to the tub spout is constricting flow out of the tub spout, that might need to be changed to a larger size of PEX or to copper. Something with a larger inside diameter. You're on your own well so it's likely excessive water pressure isn't an issue. What's on the "back" side of the wall that the valve and plumbing is installed in? Often times it's easier to cut through the back of the wall to access the plumbing, repair the plumbing, then TEST the plumbing, then patch the hole, than it is to access through the shower side of the wall....See MorePlease help me figure this out! Comments (23)Thanks arielitas_mom! yes,my plan is to make a nice, big, luxurious tiled shower along the same wall that the corner shower is now. Probably about 39" w x 6 feet long (unless that's TOO long...). I do feel like this is a compromise, since a 3BR/2BA (and lts face it, most people will use it as 2BR/2BA/office) feels like it's step down, as far as the target market, from the 3BR/3BA/office we'd planned when we bought it. But it's good to hear some positive feedback from you folks about the compromise, because it really would stretch us too far to do the addition. Thank you! So what do you all think about the fact that there's no proper dining room? The DR area is really more of a dining "nook" and there's no place to put a really big dining table. ?????...See MoreTrying to figure out how to be a good adult stepdaughter...
Comments (18)I don't see/smell any trace that OP is the other woman in her relationship with her father. I feel sorry for the father who lost so much joy with the family due to his insecure, control freak new wife. "Does your husband and his mother go to lunch and other leisure activities without including you? Would it be okay if they did?" - Why is it not OK? This question is beyond silly. In our family, we always have alone time with our parents and children. I still remember the wonderful time and conversation with my own father even it has been 40-50 years. HD was his mother's favorite, they always had private time together when we were on vacation visiting her. We also have great memory spending alone time with our own children in various countries and cities. southernsummer, do your own biological children spend alone time with you or your husband? If they do, does it make them the "other woman or man"? May be because I am the type of person who does not always remember my own birthday, I fail to see the big deal of spending time with your husband exact on your birthday, especially the daughter does not live with the father, and you live with him every single day of the year. Why cannot you find another day to celebrate? In your other posts it seems you have problem over Christmas gifts from your husband to his children. Again, I fail to understand the issues. In our own family we don't see children until Christmas break due to all of us have busy careers. We are so appreciative that they spend vacation and airfares, expenses coming home to see us ( they could well afford traveling to anywhere in the world if they want to). As always, we give high dollar gifts to indirectly compensate the expense they incur. If the once a year gifts impact your financial future, you need to have a serious discussion with your husband, otherwise, why interfere? Relationship between each parent and child is unique, it does not need to be according to others wishes/rules....See Moreriellebee
