Need help decorating/furnishing family room
Comments (6)Would you have it in your budget to hire a professional to come up with optional layouts and furniture suggestions. If not, you should work with an online room planner and really consider your family's needs and a few seating/working areas. The paint color can really be the last things to consider, based on what you have selected in terms of art, drapery, couch, etc. and I would paint the trim at the same time as you are doing the walls. Look at inspiration pictures to help (not necessarily with layout but seating options, accessories, bookcases, desk/office needs, color combinations) and based on your taste for modern farmhouse, you may want to check Joanna Gaines' site for inspirations. This is a huge undertaking and will take lots of planning. In regards to your kitchen, changes really depends on your budget. http://www.hgtv.com/shows/fixer-upper/photos...See MoreHelp me furnish our family room
Comments (3)Can you do a drawing of the room, with all doors and windows included, with the fireplace, too? Then give the size of the pool table. Does the pool table have to stay right where it is? I have difficulty seeing how to incorporate the fireplace into the sitting area with the pool table where it now sits. It might work better if the pool table is turned 90 degrees and sits in front of the window, instead. Then there can be a couch and chairs sitting in front of the fire, with the TV on the side wall....See MoreHelp with furnishing family room

Comments (10)Thanks for trying to help. I will answer your questions which also helps me to think it through: no children, but visiting grandchildren. -it is not a new build, but a remodel of a 50’s ranch. The addition is the covered porch and the extension of the kitchen. -our “games room” (ping pong) will be in the finished basement. -my sense is that the family room is less formal than the living room and will be for relaxation and TV watching. Maybe incorporating a desk. -I could switch the family and dining but it would be an awfully large dining room that wouldn’t get much use as it’s just 2 of us most of the time. The addition will have large windows across the back. Lots more light than the room now labeled family. Planning a bench under the windows. Plus the new kitchen/dining will have a different floor from the rest of the house. If this helps and you have other ideas please share. Thanks again....See MoreMatthew Mendoza
