OT..Bunnies decimated my bridal veil spirea!
Comments (16)Oh Wendy - How awful!! From what I understand, the Bridal Veil Spirea blooms in the early part of the season, and so blooms on year old wood. If that's the case, then I feel for you. They are such pretty shrubs. Farfaraway - You are not off key in suggesting that weeds are prefered by bunnies. My DM has gorgeous gardens. Surrounding these gardens are lots of Dandelions. At first glance, when you see the wild rabbits, it looks like they are heading straight for her gardens, but they always stop at the edges and eat away at the dandelions and never go in. The grandkids love to see them! They found the entrance to the burrows last year and now will sit patiently at a distance to see them come out on Sunday mornings in the summer. And, yes, everyone, they do make good stews and meat pies!...See MoreOT: Not much time to post lately.
Comments (10)Hugs from pretty ladies are always readily accepted. LOL Was just trying to inform the group why my spotty absence may increase over the next few weeks. I didn't feel great at the time and am not into the prayer thing. But thanks, I appreciate many of you. Feel pretty good today though, and that always lifts a persons attitude. Better yet it is blowing real hard with spotty rain here, making it a rare cool day for this time of the year. Between feeling better and the coolness I have been spending some time outside with the critters. BTW, saw another Anteos clorinde fluttering around my yucca blooms this morning before the winds came up. They are a rare stray here seldom seen for years on end and this makes two this year so far. Must be a sign of better things to come. LOL...See MoreOT - Funny How Time Slips Away
Comments (1)To allow this to slip away here's something, still OT. When I first became interested in identifying birds it was because they surrounded me and I had no idea what they were! Some were quite inconsequential in appearance and song. Actually, my hearing wasn't very good then either so who am I to judge the songs? The Ruby-crowned Kinglet seems to be just about everywhere in the Lodgepole Pine forest during the nesting season. I hadn't a clue what these tiny birds were! Some birds, like the Townsend Solitaire, I'd infrequently see thru the trees and more often hear their oddly familiar song. It was Robin-like but, something different. One common little fellow is the Pine Siskin. The male will hide in a small Ponderosa Pine, no taller than I am. There, he will sing and sing. I could walk entirely around the little tree and he would neither fly nor stop singing. If you click on the photo of the Kinglet you can see a few of these birds. The song is entirely that of the Siskin. I couldn't figure out how to synchronize a collection of birdsongs with the pictures and I assembled quite a number of birdsongs, copied and recopied, saved and resaved. My computer is now full of twitters and tweets!! Never trust a near-deaf person to do something like this! Anyway, the Pine Siskin is not a terribly long-winded artist so the video is over quickly: From digitS'...See MoreOT for you playing in your gardens
Comments (10)Check out her little herb pots too, another neat idea. To keep this holiday themed, you could always decorate them too. LOL I'm wondering why the pavers couldn't be put where you want them, and glued there starting from the bottom piece. If she did it last to have the 'weight' to help the glue cure, then you could always just sit another paver on top to do that and remove it when the planter is set. Anyway, I do want to make one or two. And I won't be lifting it for any reason. LOL. hugs, Karen Here is a link that might be useful: herb pots...See MorePerma n’ Posies/9A FL
