Front Entry Garages - How to beautify elevation?
Comments (9)I think if you can recess them back they look much better. Also, I have seen a small motor court put in front of the garage with a gate or doors separating them from the rest of the driveway. Here is an example of what I am talking about. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3156/3550183686_cb50eccd58.jpg?v=0 http://lh4.ggpht.com/_hUw_VQ5l9r0/Shp7xjcfdfI/AAAAAAAAEfM/CqroCVCOwGM/s1600-h/English%20Cottage%202%5B3%5D.jpg And here is a link to the blog post about this house with more pictures so you can see how it all fits in! http://www.thingsthatinspire.net/2009_05_01_archive.html...See MoreElevated shower pan for basement BR - max height of threshold
Comments (4)I'm VERY late to the party, but in case others stumble onto this page..... I have a similar issue, but my waste line going out is 4 feet above the basement floor. I had an estimate as well, and very costly. What I'm doing is adding a "upflush system - Saniflo. Just as the sump pump is another thing that can break, so is the whole you put into your foundation. Concrete absorbs water, so why cut/create "cracks" that are not needed? If a home owner ever has a crack in the wall or floor, it's considered a problem needing to be fixed. So why create a "potential" problem? I'm keeping the bath floor as is, building a 2x10 or 12 platform for shower that will cause shower floor to be 12"-14" high. Then decide if i want 1 step or two, depending on the entry height. Entery height being the step into the shower. So, is that entry level the height of the shower curb? Shower floor? Shower base? Then take that height and divide by # of steps wanted or code for step risers. EX: If I want the entry step to be the same level as the SHower floor, thus just having to step over the curb, on a 2x10 = .5" tile 2.5" Shower pan (4.5" Shower pan curb-2" inside drop to shower floor/entry level = 2.5" .5" plywood 9.25 2x10 = 12.25 step(s) height /by 2 = 6&8th per step (2) without account tread height....See Moregas dryer 18" elevation in garage...what about stacking?
Comments (1)There may be more to the rule then you are aware of. You really need to check with your local building authorities. Some locales require permits and some also require that the dryer be placed on its own platform safe from being hit by an automobile. So if you are stacking them in the garage in a location where they cannot be hit by a car, stacking may be fine, but if the stack could be hit by a car, local rules may require a platform that will protect the gas dryer from automobile damage....See MoreGarage addition elevation is wrong - how can we improve?
Comments (31)Thanks for replying with some great advice. The architect did provide elevation drawings, though said “it won’t be noticeable”. I should have asked for the measurements. It’s a bonus room, we’re really thankful for the space. Full siding, not 100% on color yet as we’re painting the whole house. It’s likely going to be close to save on paint. The pergola is a great idea, breaking it up may work. And the trim to line it up a bit. The porch will have prominent white columns and no railing. You all have helped a lot with ideas and talking me off the ledge. Once it’s complete I’ll have a better sense of how to improve it. I‘m sure there’s more we could do too....See Morechispa
