Okay, I didn't take time but to scan the replies, but didn't see that anyone mentioned screening in the covered porch on the left. It would be quite easy to do so using the ScreenTight system. Just frame above the bricks with two by fours then add the system linked below. We did this to our front porch and it's the best thing we ever did. Not only does it work great for humans, but our pets love having access to the "outside" world while still being kept safe from all that's outdoors. I also want to add my vote to NOT paint the brick, keep shutters and if your garage doors are in good working condition I'd check and see the arches are removable before buying a new garage door. I would not tack on some kind of modern glass and metal nor cable rails. This house is from the 1970s. Lean into that and don't try to make it something its not. Unless you use the deck a lot, I would remove it altogether and put a nice picture window in instead of the doors. If you use it, make it into a balcony with some nice bistro seating. Remove the stairs, put in some simple french doors, replace the rails with a simple metal design that is period appropriate and will blend with the rest of the house. Get some simple planter boxes and fill them with some nice annuals. I am seeing some red or warm colors. I also like the idea of a breezeway, pergola or some kind of covered walkway. Check out some of the MCM mass built houses in Palm Springs for inspiration. There are a lot of covered entrances to keep the hot desert sun off your head on the way into the house. Agree that the yard needs some landscaping help. Agree with some sculpted evergreens, Houses will tell you what they want to be. This is a loud, proud split level. Don't make the mistake that so many do and try to make the house conform to some trend or modern ideal. Let the vernacular of the house speak and enhance it with appropriate updates or restorations. I actually kind of like the quirky nature of this house.

First, remove all the decor items from the house and yard. Since you opted to paint the brick, picking the gray was a good move. Paint the siding on the ground floor to match the brick. Remove the shutters; the siding may be discolored compared to what's been protected behind them, so plan a power wash and possibly new paint. Remove the carpet on the steps, paint the railings and your front door black. A tear out of the overgrown and straggly shrubbery will improve the house, and you may find new areas needing paint. Take photos to a local nursery that has knowledgeable people to help you select new plants that will thrive in your locale. Be sure to enlarge the bed under the bay window and add a curve to it that replicates what's above it. Looks like new HVAC is in your future. Unless you have pets or small children who play in the back yard, I would remove the CLF. It is industrial or farm fencing and is the one item that lowers the value of a home. Can the BB hoop and trash bins be moved to the back of the home so they don't contribute to the unsightliness of the home. You'll be surprised at how much curb appeal can be added with a simple cleanup of junky stuff that should not be features of a well maintained home.
