SS sink (satin like) with pol. chrome faucet ?
Comments (7)I have satin nickel pulls and knobs, as well as satin nickel finish on my light fixtures. My appliances are stainless. But I went with a polished chrome faucet. My faucet is a classic gooseneck style, and chrome is a classic faucet finish. The people on this forum encouraged me to go with it when I was on the fence. I'm very happy with it. That set-up is in my cottage. In my home I have a stainless sink and got a stainless faucet. The two finishes are not the same, and it's always bothered me. I wish I'd gone chrome with that faucet instead of trying to match....See MoreTell me about finishes: chrome, brushed nickel, satin....
Comments (17)"brushed nickel in ... on one of these posts someone said that finish is plated" I've mentioned "plated". Almost all / options / colors / finishes / are plated. Underneath the plating is something solid. e.g. solid brass (hardware like handles) or a brass tube (the faucet body) or a strong plastic (the faucet's handspray). I used to find it confusing to read "all brass" and "chrome" in the same description. Not any more. Chrome is plated and always has been. For some people, it's considered such basic simple knowledge that it doesn't need to be stated. For some reason, it was not part of my general education and upbringing. So, I went digging for information and found that there was almost always a plated finish (on faucets and on hardware): chrome. brushed nickel, whatever other finish... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrome http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrome_plating "Types Decorative Decorative chrome is designed to be aesthetically pleasing and durable. Thicknesses range from 0.002 to 0.020 mil (0.00005 - 0.0005 mm), however they are usually between 0.005 and 0.010 mil (0.00013 and 0.00025 mm). The chromium plating is usually applied over bright nickel plating. Typical base materials include steel, aluminum, plastic, copper alloys, and zinc alloys.[2]" Most of the other finishes are by PVD method. Even stainless can be applied by PVD. The exception to this "finish plated onto something" is stainless hardware in general and stainless steel faucets that are stainless throughout (which are rare, and European). "Stainless" is a recipe with many ingredients; depending on the recipe it can end up looking any of an infinite number of shades: more nickel, more chrome, more silver, more white or more gray. Chrome also has color variations. It can be applied thin or thick. It can be applied on top of a layer of bright nickel plating. This changes the look. Look at chrome from a very high end manufacturer, and you will see beautiful color. -- I notice that the manufacturers of hardware and faucets almost never describe their chrome. -- some faucet manufacturers will lifetime warranty only chrome and one or two other finishes. sometimes they exempt the whole faucet from their lifetime warranty even though it's only the finish that has changed. Comments (21)"lynn2006: Ohh, good point - we'll have to consider what looks best with ss appliances! We're planning on doing our own trim for the Ikea cabinets, so I've done a bunch of googling on paint matches. I read that Simply White (which happens to be our trim color for our casings; I love it) is a match for Lindingo. While Ben Moore's Cloud White and Ralph Lauren's (potentially discontinued) Studio White WW09 are good matches for Adel White. The Adel White Ikea cover panels that we bought Do Not seem to match the doors!!! They are a brighter white and much glossier!! I don't know if we are the only ones with that problem, but we are returning them and plan to make our own (hopefully better matching, and cheaper!) cover panels instead. (This may have been more info than you wanted - sorry about that!)" Thank you for letting me know since I have not looked at Ikea yet and I had planned to go with the shaker door and drawer without any slab drawers and fell in love with the inset but Home depot is having a sale and I got a good price on fancier doors that I first thought were not my taste but they are growing on me when I saw the price and how much better storage I would have and they are close to the BM Cloud White color which is what I wanted. I may have to take a trip to Ikea and back to the local store with the inset cabinets and then price it all out. Home Depot is offering free trash can and recycling bin and organizers, free hardware (but I am having a touching time falling in love with the free hardware), free double silver ware drawer, free paint finish upgrade, free pull out shelves (but I really wanted drawers) and I am waiting for a price on the granite counters and the removal of the soffit, removal of the old cabinets and the tile installation. I love the Ikea organizers and my others choice is covering the soffit with trim since the bigger cabinets are pretty but I am not even 5 feet and have enough problems reaching selves right now and need a stool and ladder for the higher shelves. I am not sure which to vote for yet since I have not begun this process yet but I chose the chrome for my bathroom since I liked the bling....See MoreCoordinating hardware- satin chrome or satin nickel with stainless?
Comments (0)Hi, Our door interior doorknobs are Sure-loc satin stainless steel, but the knob style we chose isn't available in a keyed entry style. So, we have to coordinate. I'm doing this all online, so I can't compare finishes. Anyone know if satin chrome or satin nickel tends to go better with satin stainless? Thanks!...See Moreturnby
