To have better control over your view, I would suggest doing full height, within 2-4" of ceiling, drapes that stack outside the frames when open. Create the drapes to hang on rings or grommets as these stack nicely, rod pockets tend to bunch rather than stack. Make the style flat lined panels out of a drapery weight fabric as these will hang neatly like columns rather than billowing which could get in the way of the opening. Drapes add esthetic beauty, light control, privacy, and extra insulation.

Is the problem that the room is actually cold in winter? For example, what is the temperature measured by a thermometer sitting on the table in daytime and at night?

It’s not literally “cold” but it’s not very inviting when you’re surrounded by snow and cold for a good five months of the year.

Our family room is right next to this room, so I think we’ll stick with an eating area.

Have you considered adding an area rug?

Maybe a rug that is used only in winter. Unless you decide that you love it. The room looks pretty with the snow outside.

A coral or hot pink tuberose begonia blooming on the table would be nice.

I like the idea of adding an area rug to add some warmth. Even adding chair pads to the chairs to soften up the table area. Here's a link to no sew roman shades that can be made with tension rods. Do you often use that room as a regular eating area? I second Olychick's idea of making it a conversation area that actually could also be used as a casual eating area. With an area rug, throws on the chairs and drapes as Clarice suggested, I'd love to use that space for reading or conversation or snacking while looking at the winter snow or warm weather views.

I have had almost this exact room--only with white tile floors which made it even colder. I painted what little walls there was a very light, warm yellow then adding a rug was very helpful. I also did some window treatments that covered about 2/3s of the depth of the transoms in the center then came up to a jabot between the window done in a green toile with matching chair cushions. Of course, this was 25 years ago and would be dated today, but I do believe you could update the look and add some fabric in there.

If you ever decide to add upholstered chairs - consider an indoor firepit for ambience:

I too have a sunroom that is in the woods and looks at snow for several months. We also have a tile floor which adds to the chill. We added wood to the high ceiling and upholstered furniture in bright colors that is low enough so as not to block the view. We have fabric shades on only one side where the glare sometimes interferes with the TV. Lots of plants too! Please excuse the big bulky piles of covered deck furniture outside the windows.

I second the idea of drapes, maybe even velvet. IKEA has some really lovely velvet drapes. Or IKEA sliding panel curtains? They are inexpensive and come in all kinds of patterns.

And I'd add an area rug and some soft furnishing.

Any thoughts on a rug? The room is 11x11 so I was thinking 8’ square.

Rug only needs to be 36-42" larger than your table top. How big would that be?

The table is 42”, but I think it’s a bit on the small size. If I end up getting a new table, it would probably be 48”.

With a 48" table a 10 x 10 would probably be sufficient.

Since this room is opened to the family room, you need a rug that will compliment the colors in the family room.

Clarice Smyth Design said it best--curtain panels will give you the biggest "bang for your buck." It's amazing how curtains can soften and warm up a room! I'd also add a rug under the table, but make sure that you consider the size of a new table before purchasing the rug.

We have a similar room. We do have an electric "Ben Franklin type" stove with a flame. And it has a brick floor. No window treatments and I don't want any. We eat breakfast and lunch here every day. I like looking out at the garden.

The view is gorgeous but the windows look unfinished. I would add drapes, hung just below the ceiling, and a rug as suggested by some. Such a great room!

Re curtains--if you use sheer linen and hang them high and just outside the glass, you get the benefit of the softness/warmth without compromising views or light.

How about a table that is a bit larger and wicker chairs? Something like these chairs?

Still looking for comfy chairs. We had dinner out there this evening and I sat on a blanket draped over my chair. It made a bit of a difference not sitting on a cold wooden seat.

I think I’d like to find upholstered chairs. I like wicker, but that would probably require me to change out the antiques I have in the room and am not up for that. I was thinking about something like a small wingback chair.

If you are considering upholstered dining chairs, take a look at Room and Board's Cora. I know there are many of similar style, but this chair is really comfy,durable & comes in many fabrics.

I’m going to take a cue from Martha’s sunroom and go with a rug, chair pads and a little electric wood stove. My friend has one on her enclosed porch and it seems to add to the ambience. An 8’ square rug is the perfect size, but I haven’t found anything that I love, so my backup choice is a seagrass. I’m currently looking for chair pad fabric. I‘Ll post pics when it’s done.

Insulated blackout curtains. They will both keep the room actually warmer from a temperature standpoint when closed, and add textural warmth.

look into ruggables. we have one for our dining room. they are machine washable and you can swap out the top, patterned part when your bored

I looked, but they don’t have square rugs that I could find. Bummer.

You could look at Flor tile as well. They can be cut to size to make exactly the size you're looking for. You can put different patterns together or stick with one.
