The Bishop
Comments (20)Robert, your combination of The Bishop with Sombreuil and White Cap sounds wonderful. The Bishop really appeals to me and the recommendation by you and Olga makes it even more appealing. I'm excited about having the opportunity to grow it! Thank you. Oh, I've been meaning to ask you. Do you have Aptos aka Dr. Robert Korn? Would you like to have it? I don't have room in my garden though I really like the blooms. I bought it based on RVR's description of size not realizing it was Aptos and I know that Aptos gets very large in the south. I could send it to you if you want it. You have a lot more room than I have in my wee garden. Let me know. Olga, I have great faith in your rooting abilities :-). Thank you again. If you find you have a spot, I have plenty of roses to choose from and would love to send one to you. I have some gorgeous Iris that need dividing, as well. Comments (28)I agree with Marlorena - I would put it in a pot in a nice sunny location - once you have a better idea of it's habit & how you like it, you can plant it in the ground next spring (or not). Either way, it's a fun gardening experiment! But, if you really don't want a pink rose (since you were shopping for a white rose!), I also think it's totally reasonable to return it - just don't wait too long, as the sooner you bring it back the more likely they are to take it....See MorePlease Tell Us About Your Best Ten Roses
Comments (106)I bought my Francis Meilland from a nursery clearance three years ago as a half-dying potted bareroot rose, and it bounced back pretty well. I put it in a pot for one year, and after two years being in the ground, no matter how hard I pruned it back, it grew to 7 feet tall. (I removed about 3 feet from each stem after the first flush.) It's not stingy for me at all, blooming regularly every 5-6 weeks. Maybe it just needs some time to mature. I only fertilized once in March and water my roses every three days in summer. We're not as hot as other states/countries, though. Photo taken 3 days ago....See MoreBest David Austin’s for continuous blooming
Comments (52)I’ve been wondering if I should have gotten Darcey Bussel instead of Munstead Wood. MW is said to be much more fragrant, but in my garden it is only fragrant when conditions are just right. It’s an okay bloomer, but flowers lose their form, size and color in the heat of summer. The flowers crisp quickly in our dry summer heat. The spring and fall flowers are wonderful though. Sheila, do you have a MW? If so, how does it compare to DB? Stephanie? Bishop’s Castle would happily grow to 6 feet in my garden if well irrigated. I keep mine rather dry and the flowers are smaller, but it mostly stays about 4 feet and bushy. When the late summer monsoons come and the weather cools down, it shoots up taller basals that get pruned down in the winter....See Moresultry_jasmine_nights (Florida-9a-ish)
