This is a show-off piece for the people who bought a mansion in the robber baron era and needed to fill it. Pre-income tax, what else to do with your money? It might date back as far as late 1870s--because of the square hardware pulls. I disagree with Sombreul: it is attractive in its cohesiveness of carving and design. I think it lacks distracting "throw in whatever" items, a problem in lesser pieces. Any chance it's German American? There were a lot of German skilled woodworkers doing custom pieces for the posh set in that era. Here in Minn. that was common. There was taste involved in the creation of this piece. Look at the echoing trim on the drawers and the area above the upper cupboard--it is similar to trim on silver pieces. The carved panels have assymetry, but only enough to give interest and keep your eye looking. Believe it or not, there's restraint here!

It looks like walnut...but it could be a lighter wood stained that dark. It's a fairly typical 1930's style, but for the lack of the bulboous legs. I would suggest looking in antiques shops, Craigs list and on ebay...be patient but eventually you will find something with a similar look. Linda C

We're trying to help you, we really are. Please cooperate. They were in business more than 40 years, across some major style changes from Victorian through Art Deco. Until you show a picture of EXACTLY which of their buffets you are trying to find parts for, and which parts you are missing, you will not get useful answers.

Thanks everyone for the replies. lindac92 I have decided to not worry about the hardware. At first it bothered me because the pulls are 2 pieces and the flower part rotated and I didn't want it to scratch it anymore. colleenoz, the faint circle around the drops are where the drops have been rubbing against the wood. Some of the markings are larger but those are the ones that are really loose. I have done some research on the drops and I could only find a company that sells them. They claim that they are from anywhere between 1850-1910. I would really like to know the age and style of the Buffet.
