Help! older cottage in need of sprucing up with decor /accessories
Comments (8)I agree with kootenayecapable for painting island, adding color, etc. clock above brick wall needs another location. Keep mantle bare since it’s too close to ceiling. Also remove vases on wall. Serves no purpose and detracts visually. ( less is more). Replace fan/light with possibly an enameled barn/ garage light ( normally green enamel). If you need a fan put a modern fan only ( no light ) elsewhere. Nothing frilly. Is the stone look on wall wallpaper? You can hang either a graphic quilt or game board or something else with bold colors you like. Your house is lovely with great bones. Can’t wait to see what you choose....See MoreNeed ideas to spruce up the exterior of our '30s house
Comments (14)Thank you for all the great ideas! We're definitely going to go with a wood door and I can see that removing the shutters completely is a good idea, although I wonder if I could get away with just one pair in the larger window. I do want to get away from the brown though and go with a lighter color (maybe light taupe) for the entire house (including the parts painted brown). My husband would like to put some scallops up there like some other houses in the area have. We plan on replacing the wood fence with a brick wall. I'm also trying to talk him into adding a "porch" by replacing the bushes in front of the house (which are old and woody) with brick and putting a trellis in that area designed to look porch-like. I've seen some in the neighborhood that look really nice. Thanks again for the comments and suggestions!...See MoreNeed to spruce up TV mantle area, any suggestions?
Comments (1)Shawneil, can you provide a picture taken from further back, so that we can see as much of the whole wall as possible? One can't really make great choices base on just looking at a part of the total thing. A pic showing the rest of the room would be great, too, to help people get what your style is....See MoreNeed ideas to spruce up Main Room and inherited vintage furniture
Comments (7)I would replace the fabric on the seats, add a rug to ground your table/chairs, and add draperies. You also have a lot of stuff in the room. I'd simplify - is it possible to relocate the bookshelf, remove the items hanging above it, take the shelf off the wall, and remove the items from the top of your china hutch?...See Morehousegal200
