Comments (4)It's probably the starkness of the white walls that make it feel cold. Do you have favorite colors, colors you detest(pink and lavender for me), or a color scheme you'd like to use (warm neutrals, greys, etc.)? SW kilim beige and nomadic desert (have them love them), accessible beige, balanced beige, bm revere pewter, shaker beige, and manchester tan are popular colors. If you choose a neutral background for the walls, lose the border and get new light fixtures, you can accessorize with brighter colors in manageable amounts and change it as you wish. You could also switch out the laminate for a color and pattern with a little more pizzazz for a moderate amount. How long has the house been empty? While I would definitely paint a nice neutral to freshen and warm it up, sometimes a house just needs a new loving family to breath life into it again....See MoreSpruce up Exterior on a Yellow/Tan and Brown Brick House!
Comments (8)You haven’t said anything about budget. Change out the siding color starting from the colors in your brick. I would want something somewhat darker than the current color. I can’t see that adding cedar shingles to the top part of the gable ends, leaving the rest as it currently is, will be an improvement. Changing out the garage door for one with windows is a good idea. Match its color to the siding as the white highlights something that doesn’t need extra attention. Widen the walkway so that two people can walk abreast, and make it of more interesting material. Find a garden designer to help you come up with a garden design that suits both your taste and ability/interest in doing the needed maintenance. What you currently have has some evergreens which is good, but there isn’t anything interesting or that complements the architecture. You landscape is stuck in the 60’s with nothing except for your two rows of evergreens and a small patch of some type of flowers....See MoreHow can I spruce up the exterior of the house ?
Comments (21)You have an interesting house! But it definitely needs curb appeal. And more than a change of colour. I like the vertical siding but the diagonal siding is dated. I would replace the diagonal siding with vertical siding pieced in to match. I like the idea of black framed windows as mentioned by others. I also like the cream colour of paint as shown by Melissa R. I find the bubble skylight looks under scale for the space it’s in. If possible increase the size and choose a skylight that has straight lines and looks more architectural. I find the bit of roof that kind of overhangs the skylight at the very top is very distracting and serves no purpose. I would cut it back...See Moreany ideas or opinions on exterior sprucing up?
Comments (7)It looks fine now. I would add some big pots, the half-whiskey barrel size, with colorful annuals that will do well in full sun. Fall is planting time in your zone. Big ceramic pots are available in dark cobalt blue, red, orange, and sometimes green. They will be very heavy (and expensive at $200 or so each), so you could start with plastic pots that can be easily moved on wood-and-metal castors....See Morekmasj
