Need advice please. have island 10ft long island x 4ft 2" (50inches)wide. overhang will be 12 inches down the entire 10ft length. have 24"d base cabinets plus another 12"d set of base cabinets back to back. (36 inches of base cabinets that granite will sit on). question is how many support posts will be needed down the 10ft length of overhang ?(14inch overhang) Will one support post on each end be sufficient or do I need 3? can't add metal supports into top of cabinets, not enough space between the cabinet doors and top of cabinets. no room for corbels. support posts are the only option. would like one on each end vs adding one in middle. help!

Here's a scaled sketch of the washstand design showing the counter overhanging the cabinet on both sides. Note the gap, indicated by the crosshatching, on the left. A couple of you have mentioned using a filler strip, but I'm not sure what you mean. I'm envisioning the strip to be positioned next to the top part of the leg, labelled "A". There would still be a gap between the rest of the leg, "B", and the wall. What does the filler strip do? Is it set back? If so, it's not really visible, so what's its purpose? If it's flush with the front of the cabinet, doesn't it end up looking the same as if the counter didn't overhang, i.e., flush with the left side of the cabinet? And the legs still have that gap... so I don't understand. Please explain! Is there a picture to show what you mean? Thanks.

myboys1 and tonimduffy, what did each of you wind up doing? I know this is an old thread, but I'm hoping you're still getting notifications. We have the same issue, except that instead of a sliding door, our cabinet is an end run that ends at the opening to the kitchen. We don't have any room to play with, and I don't want the countertop overhang on the side of the cabinet to jut out into the opening. This is an area that I won't use for cooking, as it's only a 12 inch wide base cabinet to the right of my refrigerator - it'll just be a "drop zone" for mail, keys, charging cell phones, etc. We're doing a quartz countertop with an eased edge, and the side of the cabinet will be finished. I'd love to know what you did and see photos if you don't mind sharing them. Thanks!

Most slide-in ranges now come with a lip around the edge that the countertop fits/slides under so there is no gap between the counter and the range for crumbs to fall through. Check the installation manual of your range. Your counter templater needs that information. Also pay attention to front-to-back, because the oven door must sit proud of the nearby cabinetry. The oven minus the door should be flush with the base cabinets, and the oven's door sticks out. That's so that when the oven's door is open, there is no exposure of the combustible material of the cabinets on either side. My range sticks out about 2", as it is supposed to do, which is the thickness of the oven door. When my oven door is open, you can see that the oven itself is flush with the front of the cabinets. The more "pro-style" ranges like the Wolf will stick out even more. The amount that the door will stick out depends on how thick and heavy the oven door is, and how the manufacturer designed the oven and door.
