Slightly less-white white, but still white?
Comments (16)Yes. They painted the whole place in that color, except ceilings and kitchen walls. My kitchen cabinets are that color, too. The kitchen and laundry room have overhead fluorescent lights, and it looks a little more bright white in those rooms, but not so stark as the Ultra Bright. I'm not a decorator, but I do know that how any color will look depends entirely on your lighting and climate. I would suggest comparing the Ultra Bright White chip to a handful of other color chips, to quickly rule out most of them, and get the choices narrowed down. Once you have a small set of possible colors (I'm easily overwhelmed by these kinds of things, so I would make it 5 or less) buy the sample pots, and paint some swatches on posterboard or scrap wood, and try them out for a few days in all of the rooms you're planning to use the color. Look at the colors in all types of light that each room gets, and then pick the one that you like best. You can also do a google search for "white paint" and there's a whole slew of articles that pop up. Do not make paint choices based on an internet picture, or a swatch in the poorly lit paint store, or gawd forbid the paint aisle at Home Depot....See MoreDoes "warm" grey paint color with blue tone exist?
Comments (32)Okay...all the junk is out! Plan: clean up/mop dust, mortar chips, etc. and spend the evening with my paint samples...narrow down to three or four...paint sample boards, and pick a color. I would love to have time to see the sample boards in different light etc.; but my get-er-done DH scheduled plumbers on Monday and convinced the tile setters to partially grout the shower and come back to finish on Monday too....Grrrr! So...I plan to only paint behind the toilet and area and by bullnose edging. If I pick wrong.....I will not have to do redo the whole room. If I pick the wrong color, I am not worried about repainting near the bullnose; it is the toilet area that worries me. Anyone have a tip for painting behind a toilet that is 1/2 inch from the wall just in case. This is our attempt to correct a horrible inefficient layout...not thrilled about looking at the side of a toilet; but that compromise meant a towel closet in the bathroom (finally), a 60x60 angle shower, and room for a 77" double vanity while eliminating the 3 right angles in the second entrance from the master bath....See MoreBM Navajo White walls with Super White trim
Comments (14)Will BM Navajo work with the Super White? Yes. Here's why. Only two things to worry about to coordinate white trim and white/off-white wall colors: hue families and chroma. Hue families - is an artistic judgment about how the two colors relate to each other, it's not color data judgment. To my eye, I don't like the white's h° to be too close together but they also can't be too far a part. Chroma - as long as one of the whites has more chroma than the other, then they will work together because we know one white will NOT make the other look dirty and gray. How much more chroma is an artistic judgment using color data as a framework. A good rule of thumb is one white should have at least twice the amount of chroma or more than the other. The white with LESS chroma, the one that's more white is usually what people choose for the trim. The white with MORE chroma, the one that's more colorful is usually what people choose for the walls. However, you can reverse this rule of thumb if you like the look of not white, more colorful bolder trim and a near neutral white on the walls. So how does Navajo White and Super White stack up against this rule of thumb. It's good because Super White has a chroma of 0.21 and Navajo White has a chroma of 1.27 - ample difference in chromaticity. Which means Super White trim/doors/cabinets will look nice and white and clean juxtaposed to Navajo White walls. From a Hue Family and/or h° color relationship perspective, I like it - the colors are far enough a part but not TOO far a part. Look at the Hue Families and h°, 92° and 115°, on this color wheel and you'll see what I mean....See MoreTake the Yellow out of BM White Dove wall paint?!
Comments (94)WD is not my favorite white, but many do love it. First you need to test some whites with your other finishes - floor/counter and backsplash. You also need to consider the trim color that you are using in the rest of your house. Do you have white trim? What color is the current trim color? Whites often do not play well with other whites. When you have picked the color have to have a sample painted with whatever paint the cabinet painter is using. Their color matches are not always perfect, so better to find out before they paint all your cabinets. Many people who have used White Dove have re-painted with Simply White. It still has some yellow undertones, but never looks dingy. WD can go dingy. Personally, my favorite is a color match that BM stores mix for me. Match of Devine Color™ V0101W Icing. The difference between Simply White and Icing is that Icing leans just a bit more toward the orange yellow then the green yellows. I sometimes detect a touch of green (Chartreuse) in Simply White. Computers do a lousy job depicting whites, but this is an analysis of several of the whites that were discussed in this chain. The LCH designations are L - how light the color is, C - Chroma - how colorful or gray the color is and H- Hue - where the color falls on the color wheel. Yellow range is 72-105 Yellow green is 105-130 As you go down in chroma and the colors get closer to gray we see it as a blue or cool undertone (Chantilly Lace, Decorators White)...See Moresnowcountry
