Comments (2)Not universally. Here in my part of Southern California, half-day sun is fine. Even all-day dappled light. But it will be different in different areas. One thing -- I think this is a rose that wants plenty of water -- moreso if it is in heat. And it should prefer acidic conditions over alkaline conditions. Most of all, this is a BIG, BIG rose. It is going to need time to build an extensive rootball, sufficient to support the rose. I would not be at all surprised if it bloomed sparsely for the first few years. As an example, our massive R. banksia lutea did not bloom at all for its first three years -- didn't grow a lot, either. It had been pickaxed out of a very old garden, and arrived as an ugly stump with minimal roots. It did little until it had built the root system that it required. Then, it began to grow like crazy, and bloom generously. Jeri...See MorePeggy Martin rose
Comments (3)I am not a rose person, but I just read an article in today's New York Times about the Peggy Rockefeller rose garden. They have one called the "Peggy Martin Survivor" that bloomed after Katrina. If they have Peggy Martin roses in NY's colder zone, then maybe yours will be fine, too. Comments (13)I truly appreciate all of the heart warming comments that my wife , Jan and I received. We were very fortunate to suffer no damage. Cooler temperatures until today allowed the plants to go without watering. We had filled large containers with water if we needed it. Our power was restored this afternoon (Tuesday). The roses inside the greenhouse and the thousand or so plants in the ground all look well. Still a lot of new buds in the greenhouse and a lot of new growth on the plants outside. The Peggy Martin roses each have a few blooms on them, I am so appreciative that they had a much easier time with this hurricane than their parent plant did with Katrina. Roses a plant of such diversity, the individuality of them is something I always appreciate. Don Rogers...See MoreA Reverance for Roses
Comments (6)I recently got gloire de Dijon from him and it is growing like crazy !! I already have to repot it from the 5 gallon I plopped it in . His roses are fantastic. I love supporting their business when I can . Someday when I have a lot of land I want to grow more antiques and will surely be buying a lot from him !...See More- 4 years ago
