Your fern looks great. If you a a good gardener and will have nice looking plants in the living room I'd look for a couple of pillows that include a little bit of bright green --brighter than in the striped fabric pictured above.

That fern is a beast!! I've had it for almost 8 years, it's been repotted 3 or 4 times and every time I figure this is it, the end of the fern, and yet....Its back in its' proper home now, where the xmas tree is located. The footprint of the fern isn't that much smaller than the tree.

The chairs are also a light sage/olive green and there are bits of green pottery as well as succulents. My kitchen has a greenish/blackish counter.

I like those! I keep finding that style with more red than other colors, but I'll keep looking.

I think your living room looks pretty nice, rather than empty, so I'd wait until you find one you really love, rather than rushing to get something. Only exception would be if the couch were too deep to use comfortably, but it doesn't look that crazy.

Can you center your rug and sofa on the fire box & window? I would have placed the tree where the gold chairs are positioned.

There's nothing to "commit" to. They're pillows. They're cheap. Change them every month if you want.

It's not as though it's a major dilemma like a house addition.

Buy whatever you like. Simple. Cheap. Done.

A cheap pillow is not worth buying. I would not select anything smaller than 22" square and filled with down for comfort. You can get some very nice covers on Etsy at very reasonable prices.

Your home looks great (just saw your other thread). I especially love your wall color with the stone of your fireplace. Nice to see pictures of a fellow "Craigslister's" home. I've found some of my favorite pieces on Craigslist.

I also struggled with committing to accent pillows for a long time, but finally found some I loved. One favorite is from Pottery Barn (their quality can be hit or miss), and the other is a kilim fabric that I found at a flea market. I personally like the heavily textured pillows that can take a beating because we have cats and some visitors (my brother in particular) who can be a little rough on them. I agree with Beverly that cheap pillows aren't worth purchasing. I don't like disposable decor in general.

Beverly—I wish I could center it in front of the fireplace!! You can’t tell from the pictures, but the windows and fireplace are not centered on each other. If you center on one, the other even more out of whack! And when you place furniture so you can see the TV it is very skewed to one side of the rug.

I don’t put the tree where the chairs are b/c that where I have to put my folding table for our Xmas meal. It’s the one we host and it’s only 6 people, and that’s where it fits while allowing people to use furniture too.

I have struggled mightily with furniture and rug placement in here. The TV can’t go anywhere else unless you block a window (this is out only living room/tv room, gathering space) and the room is too narrow to place couch across it.

It’s about 22 feet long and varies from 9 to 11 feet wide depending on where you measure. It’s also the only path to the master bedroom upstairs.

I’m open to more ideas though!!

And as pillows being nearly disposable, cheap or not, I’m trying my best to consume less and more wisely. The textile industry is notes for unfair labor practices, pollution, and waste. I would like to get a better sense of what works here so I can focus my search.

I agree with Beverly about using 22” minimum size pillows. However, because of my back I prefer very dense foam in the pillows. You can always put a layer of down on top of the dense foam if you want to give some softness, an upholsterer knows how to do that.
