Thank you BAC717! The rug is probably my most favorite item in this room and honestly I never would have even purchased it if it were not for the help of my fellow Houzzers. I do not have a good eye for decorating, and these guys have really helped me see the possibilities. We've been in our house for 7 years and this room has always been a struggle. it just seemed gloomy and blah! To me, the room has so much more character now and it's more "me". My 2 posters came in the mail this week. I'm going try to get them framed and hung this weekend. We are still undecided on a paint color. Someone recommended BM Natural cream, which I like; however, because I want to use the same color throughout the entire first level, I have to make sure the wall color works with the kitchen cabinet color (BM Dove White), which has grey undertones. I'll check out the color you recommended also. I have a bunch of paint sample cards but no real contenders yet. Good luck with your room. Let me know when you post and I'll check it out.

Usually adding a picture of your furniture in place will help to get better advice..leather furniture is kind of slippery for throw pillows to stay in place...so if the purpose is decorative and not function I would look for other ways to add interest or color...perhaps throws?

Beverly—I wish I could center it in front of the fireplace!! You can’t tell from the pictures, but the windows and fireplace are not centered on each other. If you center on one, the other even more out of whack! And when you place furniture so you can see the TV it is very skewed to one side of the rug. I don’t put the tree where the chairs are b/c that where I have to put my folding table for our Xmas meal. It’s the one we host and it’s only 6 people, and that’s where it fits while allowing people to use furniture too. I have struggled mightily with furniture and rug placement in here. The TV can’t go anywhere else unless you block a window (this is out only living room/tv room, gathering space) and the room is too narrow to place couch across it. It’s about 22 feet long and varies from 9 to 11 feet wide depending on where you measure. It’s also the only path to the master bedroom upstairs. I’m open to more ideas though!!
