Must I seal plywood sub-floor before laying peel-stick Tile?
Comments (6)I had the same kind of Sub-floor put in for my beauty shop, I to used peel and stick tile. I primed the 3/4 inch plywood, let it dry. Follow the peel and stick directions for placement. My tiles never came up. You don't need the fancy stuff in the previous reply. I had traffic on my floor for eight years and it looked fantastic till the day we moved out of the home., OH...just make sure to use screws to fasten plywood, we had a floor come up because of nails used by flooring people. Have fun!...See MorePeel-and-stick floor tiles questions
Comments (5)I've done a ton of peel & stick tiles and always used this technique. At a flooring store, ask for a gallon (or so) of what is referred to as "thin spread." It's a milky-looking adhesive. Snap the guide lines on your floor and then, using a flat trowel, coat an area with a film of the adhesive. Use as little as possible with no gobs or thick lines. Let it dry or use a fan to help it. When dry, it'll be clear. CAREFULLY set your first tile. I say this as, it's kinda like putting two pieces of duct tape together. You don't want to have to try to "adjust" the tile after down. Trust this; those tiles will NEVER pull loose. I've done this over concrete, sheet good and plywood. Easier than it sounds....See MoreShower floor tile - match charcoal slate floors or white subway walls?
Comments (14)Thank you everyone for your comments! We did a couple sample layouts tonight based on your advice, and we’re going to do the charcoal in the shower floor. If I can’t find a good quartz/etc remnant for the curb, we’ll do the large hex cut in half - with the darker gray grout we’re considering for the floor, I think it will look better than the white grout example I posted. I just can’t believe they are finally starting to do real work in the master bath - so much is changing in the house as a whole, but this is our biggest single room project with all new materials and design elements. Exciting and terrifying all at once!...See MoreDo slate look floor and marble subway tiles in shower go together?
Comments (3)Laura - what did you wind up selecting for your tile? My master bathroom remodel starts this upcoming Thursday. I’ve kinda of been putting it off because I’ve had a difficult time selecting materials (whether to use marble or not has been a big indecision for me). I HAVE to finalize decision this weekend. I’ve purchased marble for walls and 4x12 slate tile for floors (with radiant heat). Just second guessing myself probably and looking for some reassurance (which, unfortunately, it appears that you failed to receive any). Thanks!...See MoreSammy
