Well when Vintage had their retail store it began like this. Fang and I would drive up their and I would read their catalog out loud until we got lost from ignoring the directions but paying close attention to the rose descriptions. We'd pull up and begin our wanderings through the tables. I would go find what I had researched and then the signal cry from Fang would rend the air."Oh! Oh! Look...AT THE BUD! Look at the bud. Holding it aloft and I would look up and ask the name and she would murder the French. So I'd HAVE to go look. She'd buy it that week and I'd get it when we returned...Her garden is full of roses that I couldn't grow and vice verse to a lesser extent. Oftentimes Rosefolly or Pam and Michael would show up to give input and we all have copies of roses in each other's gardens and do not dither about making up your mind because Michael can make his up in a trice and goodbye Pharisaer...Nowadays it is more difficult. I'm a victim of the written word--give me snake oil. Here is just one such rose that captivated me, often in the falling rain...the light is perfect then. la

Zinsser makes a great primer. The others are right though, it won't go on evenly like your final coat. You're doing fine. :) I painted a wood desk last summer and when I finished with the primer, I thought the same thing, "oh, what a mess I've made." But then I put on the first finish coat (a black high gloss paint), all of my doubts went away. You may need to put on two coats of your regular paint though since you're covering the wood and primer. I would put one coat on and then see if you even need to fill those corners. A little spackle will work - no mixing needed. When you first apply it it will be pink and then it dries to white. Then you can lightly sand it and paint on your final coat. Also, as others mentioned..use a really good regular paint brush. It will have finer bristles and give you a nice, smooth application. The inexpensive brushes have courser bristles. Believe me, the brush does make a difference. Bottom line is... you're doing great! :)

Donna, your seedlings look nice and happy! How old are they? Are they from your first Santos crosses in 2014? Do you still have all those seedlings? Then you might have a big Santos & familiy flower party next season... I'm looking forward to see the pictures :-) I just read your old posts about Santos and saw your beautiful and almost mouthwatering pictures. Of course I would love to get some seeds from you with Santos genes in them if you have some to share, because now I'm really in love with Santos :-) And I'm sure you will find nice partners for this beauty! Until now I wasn't a succesful bee this season so I can't offer you anything right now. There's only the White x Papilio seedpod which still may fail. But there are more flowers to come (Emerald, Santiago, Rebecca, Estella and others)... Anja
