Subfloor with Delta-FL -- OSB or plywood
Comments (11)I just finished two rooms in my basement with DriCore and I'm pretty impressed with the product. Anyone with a table saw should have a pretty easy time with it. Even though I used the Dricore shims where the floor was irregular, I still have a few places where I hear the knock of Dricore against concrete when you step on it. The laminate flooring helped, but it didn't elimate the noise. In retrospect, I think I could have done a better job to eliminate the noises with more careful shimming, but I was moving along at a fairly rapid pace and lost track. I put in enough Tapcons in the bottom plates of the walls I built to appreciate not needing them with the Dricore. Plus, the Dricore people dwell on the fact that this is a floating floor, and attaching it to the concrete wasn't recommended. I ordered the DriCore directly from the manufacturer (Home Depot had dropped them by the time I was ready to buy), so it showed up on my driveway on a pallet. After carrying 85 sheets of drywall by hand to the basement, 2x2 squares was a welcome change. I think it wound up being about $1.25/sqare foot. Bill...See MoreAdura Max on OSB throughout house ?
Comments (4)Good to know. By the way I bought the AduraMax Apex flooring from you guys and its supposed to be delivered in the morning. Great price and the free shipping and no sales tax saved me a lot compared to the local stores that carried it. One wanted over $5.50 a foot and the other finally made me a lower offer of $4.60 a foot but I would have to pay tax on 36 cartons of it. I was a little surprised that the planks of each width only have 2 different patterns for each width. I already installed it in a spare bedroom to see if we liked it before buying the other 850 SF. Will need another 150 for another spare room later in the fall. SO it seems that Im actually doing the preferred method just by dumb luck and my desire to NOT have to put underlay everywhere and just have to remove a few hundred feet of old kitchen floor and underlay along with removing the old carpet and pad....See MoreOSB v CDX Plywood Sheathing Question
Comments (13)I like to use the Zip system for wall sheathing but my second choice would be CDX rather than OSB for its better characteristics relative to water and moistune vapor. Designers and builders have preferences but I don't know why anyone would consider CDX to be "inferior" to OSB. They both meet the same APA standards and CDX is a little stronger. The APA doesn't have a classification that could be considered "garbage". 4x10 CDX plywood is available but it may be easier to find it in Structural 1 or AC plywood. In past years, the only advantage of OSB was its lower price. If its now more expensive, I can't think of a reason to use it. However, OSB is made from smaller trees....See MoreFlatten OSB for tile
Comments (3)appears to be added and not original. Id have that osb removed in about 2 hrs. then id fix the underlying car deckingu/subfloor Depending on the deflection i may either replace w proper TILE rated EXP1 B plywood or a proper screed. depends on tech specs and desired elevation....See Moreworthy
