New Year's Mystery quilt
Comments (13)I am doing the Quiltville NY mystery. Bonnie's quilts are quite a challenge but you always learn something new, like a new ruler or technique. Her quilts. of course, are always scrappy so you just need to dig in the stash. I am actually working on 3 of her projects...2 blocks she had posted on her blog and she did a Labor Day mystery Old Tobacco Road but I am not finished it and now this one. Today I did some cutting and sewed 10 3 1/2 blocks and squared them and that took me one hour. I still have 110 to make...think that will keep me busy tomorrow. I did one from PP one year and it had snowballs in the border. The instructions were a bit poorly and I could not get my snowballs right so I said phoeey and finished it up. I am not doing any more of their's. Bonnie maintains you need small pieces to make the quilt look good. She seems to like the 98 to 120 count or maybe 360 haha. Still time to join in . Comments (10)That's really a pretty quilt, and wonderful fabric choices. I finished sewing my blocks together last night, and am thinking of putting a border on it today. I arranged my blocks a little differently and it creates a different pattern. I took the instructions literally as well about fabric choices and mine is wild scrappy. Even a little scrappy for my tastes, but it's growing on me. I loved this pattern, and am likely to make it again, using maybe four fabrics. Glad I joined in on the mystery, it was fun....See Moretime for New Years mystery
Comments (9)I am usually a bit leery of mysteries. I like to know what I am making. Now, having said that, I have taken part in a few mysteries at the LQS, mainly because I liked the teacher. I just read the fabric list for this new one and since I got some interesting fabrics as Christmas gifts, I just might try it. I know I can't sew that day as we will be having company, but if I can remember to get each hours' instructions, I can work on it later. Theresa...See MoreWill you sew on New Years Day?
Comments (11)An old family superstition is that whatever you do on New Year's Day you will wind up doing for the rest of the year. So I hope I get to fit something in that I enjoy such as sewing. I tried to get the laundry caught up yesterday but pooped out with this bronchial cough. My energy is just zapped because of it and some other things going on recently. I did get to Joann's Monday with my Christmas gift certificate and lucked out on batting - fifty percent off. Then I had some forty percent off coupons and got 7 yards of unbleached muslin (120 inch wide) for backings. The regular width was on sale but not the wide. I would have gotten some wide printed backings but they were all picked out. Also got some deals on thread, so I bought a couple of large spools of the Guitterman cotton, it doesn't shed lint like the cheaper brands. Yesterday I tried my hand at a tote bag - the one using charms on the Missouri Star site. I had to watch the video over a couple of times with the construction of it, especially the part where you sew the lining to the bag - I'm kind of sewing-challenged in that category, never was much of a fashion sewer - can't follow directions very well. I watched the other one using jelly rolls and intend to try that one, too....See Morenannykins
